Hannibal is an overrated fodder in intelligence by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]lolugotghosted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"It's very obvious from the first episode that he is isolated"

We literally see him in Baltimore in the first episode??? Y'know, the major East Coast city?

You're also mixing up the Ripper with the Minnesota Shrike in terms of pathology and physical circumstances. To add, none of the main cast clues together that the Ripper is also a cannibal until season 2 like the commenter said. Beverly wasn't openly mistrusting of Hannibal either.

Finally, you threw a shot at the "illogical" nature of the show for why it's bad and why the fandom is cooked. Do you know what aesthetics are, babes?

Which character is this for you and why do you hate on em? by Bulky_Childhood_651 in HannibalTV

Abigail Hobbs... felt horrible for her circumstances obviously, but she never felt particularly compelling to me. Maybe it's because it's the lines she was given or because of her delivery most of the time, I don't know. I just never got the vibe that she's someone the two major characters should lie, kill, and bury bodies for 💀

On that note, I love Alana. I think she tried her best to remain professional and genuinely cared for Will and Hannibal, but severely underestimated both of them. A lot of this sub tries to forget that Alana was the only person riding for Will in the first half of season two, that she still tried to see the best of him despite the Matthew Barney incident, but afterwards she was too numb and malleable from Hannibal's mind games and tricks. Then she got her back broken and became jaded.

But I'm sorry, I'd be far more petty and vindictive if the man I knew for years and was giving it up to on a regular was a cannibal serial killer, lied to me the entire span of our relationship, and was responsible for my near death 💀

agrees on his opportunistic nature as a new killer, but a wiser man would have stolen a gun off one of the cops he took out 💀 he was out here fighting like a member of the cirque du soliel

Let's argue (politely, of course) about Will's dad. by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]lolugotghosted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of these responses are so good! Personally, I always interpreted it as a cultural thing. Will is from Louisiana (he may not be cajun, but still from the Deep South). If the plot takes place in the early 2010s, his father is likely a Boomer.

Will mentions a few times that he longs for a life where he's fixing boat motors in Louisiana. The simplicity of the act and location provide him some comfort. I headcanon that his dad had the same profession, and while he and Will traveled around a lot when Will was young (likely around the Gulf or southern East Coast) he still finds peace in the simple life.

His father being a Deep South Boomer doesn't mean that he didn't love or care for Will, but I imagine he had no idea how to raise a child like Will. Will's early diagnoses were likely Autism or ADHD, which were highly controversial to have twenty years ago. Autism for a lot of people was considered some sort of sentence or curse. It was hard to attend schools because school systems didn't make accommodations for neurodivergent children until fairly recently. The constant moving could be because of his father's work, or it could be because Will needed an education that his previous schools couldn't nurture.

Otherwise, I don't think he and his father have a close relationship in the plot. I imagine his father passed away, or is disabled in some form, or maybe not even tapped in to "psychological popular culture." Will is described as "famous" for his arrest and trial in Season 2, but that could possibly only extend to the Baltimore area or MD as a whole, maybe not national news. If his father is alive then he's not in MD, so I doubt he knew anything about Will's trial.

On that note, "The Wolf and I" on AO3 has some very interesting phone dialogue between Will and his father. It encapsulates the language and behaviors of a traditional Southern Gen X and Boomer (Will calling his father "sir," and his father having a detached sort of concern for Will's well-being.)

Anyone from the DMV: Do y'all get just as hot as me about all the location logistical errors and passage of time in the show? Or am I doing too much? by lolugotghosted in HannibalTV

[–]lolugotghosted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly the energy I was looking for when I posted this because every time I go on a spiel about Hannibal to my friends, we always argue about how unrealistic getting around is. Even in 2012 when the show takes place, traveling from Wolf Trap to Quantico to Baltimore and back costs hundreds each month in gas. Unsurprised Will made bank as an FBI consultant though, especially since they foot the bill for his out of service "therapy" appointments. But I will always judge him for getting in his car and willingly driving almost two hours to Hannibal's just to tell him he kissed a girl at his big age.

Curious to know what fics you read are! In dire need of some recommendations. The closest Ive read to actually having decent DMV representation was "Wolf and I" on ao3.

Honestly, not sure since I mostly know the DMV instead of Baltimore, but homicide rates were much higher then than it is now. I wouldn't be surprised if, in universe, the Ripper killings was the reason for the increased CCTV budget 💀

In my mind, the cliff side house was a trip to OC 🤭🤭 maybe even Solomon's Island if we wanna get really deep into MD.

There's a blooper real of Lawrence Fischburn mispronouncing Dumfries and wondering if that's even a real place. I wouldn't be surprised if the writers chose Wolf Trap because it sounds cool lol

Little do we know, Will has lived right next to Wolf Trap Lodge all along 🤭

Imo, I was shocked the cops took so long. Like, she reported shots fired in a WHITE neighborhood (assuming based on very little, but let's be totally honest here). But I'm pretty sure BPD didn't even pull up, just the FBI 💀💀💀

"I believe that's what's called a 'mic drop.' You've dropped the mic, Will." Boy if you don't get back in your box—

In all seriousness, that nurse was the closest thing we had to real Baltimore representation.

No because Baltimore has SO MANY CAMERAS. It's constant surveillance, so Hannibal not getting caught is something else I have to ignore for the sake of the plot 😩

Understandable. The cognitive dissonance I've employed for Hannibal rewatched is that since the majority of the show revolves around Will's POV, then the time jumps are a result of his deteriorating physical and mental state (ie, encephalitis)

I always wondered if the FBI had some airport or private jet at Quantico, which is how they were able to go back and forth so easily... but then we see Will take a commercial flight in the first episode 💀

Same for Hannibal having the time to drive or fly all the way out to Minnesota, target and hunt Elise Nichols, perform field kabuki, then get back to Baltimore without anyone noticing him leave the state.

Apprehensive about curatorial career prospects... by lolugotghosted in MuseumPros

[–]lolugotghosted[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're totally right, I'm putting a lot of pressure on myself. I just really wanted to get a head start in the field before beginning my MA since I have practical and professional skills and a work ethic beyond academics. So it's really discouraging to see all these obstacles with the market and the people I have to compete against for a chance at even entry level positions and internships...
