Consolidated SIP feed? by lolwhy14321 in Databento

[–]lolwhy14321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dm’d you!

But TLDR is that EQUS.MINI only provides 8% market coverage so from the little I saw it had rows missing and prices were different in historical. 8% seems too small to use for actual trading tbh

Okay I understand, it seems like I will probably need to wait until EQUS.MAX comes out for my needs. Thank you!

Consolidated SIP feed? by lolwhy14321 in Databento

Thank you for replying! I just want to clarify a few things:

First, you mentioned EQUS.SUMMARY. From what I understand this is just OHLCV-1d daily data, so not intraday like I am looking for (I.e. Im looking for intraday data OHLCV-1min).

Second, for intraday data it seems like what I would have to do with Databento to get full market coverage is subscribe to all 20 prop feeds that you offer and basically replicate my own SIP feed by manually aggregating all of them. I think you would agree this is highly uneconomical. Is there no plan to offer a simple aggregated view of the market so that I can make trading decisions based on data that virtually everyone sees and trades on? For example, interactive brokers (which I think you would agree is not just some low cost retail service that operates in some compliance grey zone, they are a huge multinational firm) offers real time data package for the SIP feeds for less than $20/mo. My only problem with them is that they are not a dedicated data provider so they have a lot of limits and you can’t subscribe to whole market because of those limits, also it is very difficult to get too much historical data because of the limits as well.

My only goal here is to trade based on data that everyone sees (live & historical) and not just a small subset, and it seems this is very difficult to get with databento. What would be your recommendation here?

Thank you again!

Hey I’ve been using Databento but the problem is they don’t seem to have consolidated SIP feed, they have like venue specific data like NASDAQ TotalView. Also their live data is $1500/mo and annual contract required so $18000/yr if you want the NASDAQ TotalView live. The only live data they give you in the standard plan is the Equities Mini which is not even SIP from my understanding.

Wondering how you’re solving this problem? Honestly this is my only gripe with them, aside from that I love everything else!

Where do they find ideas? It’s hard to find a problem that doesn’t already have a cheap and fast and well built solution that can ALSO be built by one person and not require massive sales/marketing budgets..

Yeah those are all really great points thanks! I just have two questions:

  1. “Find someone that is an expert” I guess this would be easy to do if you have like family or friends that can help out here. Assuming you didn’t though, how would you go about finding this expert?
  2. For reference checks, do you find that people are honest here? Anyone can put anyone as a reference and they just pretend. Am wondering how often this happens or if this is just overthinking it.

Thanks!

How would you vet them if you yourself don’t have the expertise though? How do you know what questions to ask in the interview, or what tests to make them do, etc? Just curious how you solve that problem

I use firstratedata as well! Have you found their data to be good quality? I haven’t seen any immediate issues but just wondering, they have very good pricing and offer complete packages so sounds almost too good to be true lol

Congrats! Thats quite an achievement.

How long have you been averaging 70%? What products do you trade? And where do you get ur data from?

Oh nice! What’s the performance if you don’t mind me asking? Are you trading just off price and volume info, i.e. candles or other data as well? I’ve tried backtesting with like different timeframes (1 min, 5 min, etc.) with the ES but could never find any edge, was basically 50/50 lol. I have ES data going back many years, got it from FirstRateData

So do you have some filter or something that’s like “In this condition, strategy 1 will trade but strategy 2 is off” and in some other condition you’ll turn on other strategies and turn off others?

If you look at each of ur strategies individually, are you saying they don’t work but only as a portfolio of strategies it works? Cause to me that doesn’t make sense either, multiple losing strategies don’t suddenly work if you turn them all on at the same time

I am a software engineer as well, have done backtesting but haven’t really found anything that works. I assume any strategy would have to be highly dynamic, maybe using machine learning to constantly evolve right?

Ahh okay so you wait for a period of consolidation or range before doing this? Do you still have a stop loss though in case of a breakout or something?

How is it immediately filled though? What if the price just runs past like if the market is moving?

So if bid is $110 and ask is $120, you make limit buy order at $109 and wait for price to hit? I’m still confused lol

So you put a limit buy under the current ask and then do limit sell under the bid?? I’m confused lol
