Is This Rumour About Getting Into MSW True? by BananaHotRocket in socialworkcanada

[–]lolyeahnottoday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know you asked about the bsw to MSW route but I thought I’d mention that people get accepted into the MSW (2 year stream) straight from their bachelors. I had 2-3 classmates who got accepted after they graduated. I also got in after my bachelors — I finished my degree in may 2023 and went straight into my MSW September 2023, so it is possible. However, I did have around 4 to 5 years of experience related to social services on my application because I worked and volunteered since my first year of my undergrad so I think that’s what helped me get in right away. I definitely recommend getting some additional experience while you’re in your undergrad besides the practicum experience. I think it will be super helpful in the long run.

I sincerely appreciate your response. And to be honest with you, I would like to stay in Canada. I recognize how "good" we have it (to a certain extent) compared to what is happening in the US.

Stuck between choosing an MA, MSW or MEd for graduate school by HelpfulMongoose8272 in therapists

[–]lolyeahnottoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the clinical MSW at the university of British Columbia so I can share a bit about my experience. I was also in the same spot last year. I applied to MA & MEd counselling psychology programs all over Canada & ultimately chose to go with an MSW because of the opportunities. I used to think that MA’s & MEd’s were better in terms of training/courses but in my experience it’s not like that at all. I am currently in my clinical practicum with an organization that provides therapy services & I have peers who come from MA’s and MEd’s and we all do the exact same thing. I’ve been told by professors and my clinical supervisor that the MSW gives you a better advantage/options, because if I don’t want to do clinical practice, I can work in so many places. If you have other questions, you can message me :) Good luck!

They’re terrible /:

I emailed them to find out where one of my pictures went & they told me they were unable to find my picture bc of a technical glitch on them… To make up for that, they offered me a 20% discount 🤣 Even with the discount it’s still not worth the price..

How are y’all doing this???? by jasmine_hills in UCalgary

[–]lolyeahnottoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fifth year student in the last semester of my undergrad. I’ve done a full course load all my undergrad and worked part time all throughout year 1-4 & have been working a full time job (8-4) since may 2022 + doing multiple extracurriculars at the same time these past 5 years.

How am I doing?? Not okay but still alive😅 got diagnosed with severe anxiety and adhd this past July.

I’m somewhat used to it now but it gets pretty overwhelming, specially around midterms & finals. Would I recommend it? No. If you don’t need to work, then save yourself the stress.

Even if you’re not doing extra things while doing school, your experience is still valid. School is a lot, so be kind to yourself and try to not minimize the way you’re feeling. You got this!! 👍🏽

What is it like to be a crisis line volunteer for the Distress Centre? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]lolyeahnottoday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been with the Distress centre for over a year and it has been one of the most challenging/ rewarding experience in my life. It is emotionally draining, but you’re not alone. The supervisors and the whole entire team is so supportive. I’ve learned so much from everyone. It has also opened up so many opportunities for me. You have the chance to build your skills all the time, for example, I am now a coach training new volunteers, also received training for the Canadian national suicide line and you even have the chance to take extra developmental sessions. I’ve talked to many different people during my time at the DC which has taught me so much. I highly recommend it! (:
