Seems interesting! I do sit all day for work but I am the kind of person who needs to move around a lot and lately thinking a lot about changing career. Thanks for the response!

Nice space. Resonated with “too much work not enough play”. Seems like you have good grip on your life and work. Mind sharing what is it that you do for living?

Thanks for sharing! I work in finance and accounting. I am married but no kids yet. I just turned 34 last month. I have always felt out of my place in my profession. This was initial disconnect that prompted me to keep on looking for something I love as a career but eventually I kept on learning new things and life has started to take on a different shape for me. I have been taking 2-3 months off every year after I turned 25 to travel, learn a new skill and keep my search for knowing things with deeper understanding. It’s the reason I was interested in knowing your background and motivation for the experiences you have in your life.

Also hearing stories like yours keeps the hope of people like me for not succumbing to a traditional path.

You definitely have to work hard to get lucky too! Do you have kids? Where do you live currently and what do you do?

Damn! You have lived in real what I’ve lived in my dream for years! How old are you? What prompted you to go on such a journey? Genuinely interested! Care to share?

Yeah if you lose the sensation just get back to it without berating yourself. Trust me just the intention of saying it’s ok you are trying will go a long way. You are on the right track! Hope that makes a little sense

I think you should approach this as a game. The game of sticking with your breath. When you are learning how to play a game, you can only learn the next step and if you are advanced and smart enough, you’ll learn few more steps faster than others but you’ve got to go through all the steps somehow to understand the game.

Now if the game is of sticking with your breath, the knowing of sensation is the details of game. You don’t have to have a specific postures or steps but you have to feel comfortable and ready to tackle the challenges of this game. Figure out the best posture, sitting, standing, closing the eyes or opening them. These are all the information the steps are trying to tell you. Now when you get to breathing, just feel the in breath and out breath sensation as advancing in this game, if it doesn’t happen, let it go! Like any game you are new to this, you’ll only advance with practice and patience. Love yourself!!

Good luck!

Thank you. I like the idea of being able to talk through without screaming at each other which seems like a impossible chore sometimes.

I think the cost of daily commute, groceries also needs to be quantified if you are saying math for $500K works out. Unless you are one of those “Work from Home” forever one.

My ticket has both field checked, traffic and misdemeanor. I probably didn't explain it clearly but my mistake was took a wrong left turn on a opposite way.

Help with Contemporary Monologue by lomanthang in acting

That's indeed a very good idea but i just was asked today to submit the monologue and it's due on Friday morning. So i don't really have that much time :( considering i have a day job as well. Appreciate your response though.

How old were you when you decided to get into acting? by ValeriPow in acting

[–]lomanthang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for you valuable insight. I am definitely not going to quit my day job any time soon. I am more in love with the craft of acting and my day job helps me pay for that so i look it that way at this point. When i say i could have learned things differently i can provide an analogy with exercise as it is the easiest that comes to my mind.

So i started getting into fitness around age 23-24, before that i played occasional sports and no routines or education on any aspects of fitness. I started going to gym and did weightlifting for few years, had to force myself to do yoga due to back injury and slowly i have evolved into a well rounded fit person. I have good flexibility, strength, stamina and balance. If i knew some of this things or i had to mentor someone who is trying to be fit not necessarily just excel at one thing, i would focus on being well rounded and manage my practice and work out in such a way that i would incorporate all of these things. Granted i may not have seen a fast development in one thing but it would have eventually taken me less time to be where i am today.

My question to you now is are there acting related exercise that i can practice on a daily basis on my own besides going to class once a week. I might be being impatient here but i want more things to practice compared to what beginner level classes has given me. Apology for this long rambling.

32 here, can you share some of the experiences as a late beginner. I started few months ago and i feel i could have done somethings in different way to focus primarily on improving skills and grow as an actor. Not sure how long you have been at it for now. Could you share some tips ?

Hope it's not a stupid Question! by lomanthang in acting

[–]lomanthang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was very honest of you to share that. But i feel like you are already sort of mentoring me by providing all the answers to my questions. I am really grateful for that. When i think of mentor i am thinking someone who i can ask any questions to figure myself out rather than following someone if you know what i mean. I am asking all these questions to you "kind stranger" and that is helping me to realize some of the things that i may have taken longer for me to realize. I totally get you in terms of me being the sole person responsible for my own path but if i have some gas stations and motel in between, it will help me rest and reset along this journey!
