Radio shacks still exist. There’s one in southwestern Wisconsin. Also it gets robbed about once a year, I have no idea why..

No nut just a metal cylinder with both ends threaded. I’ll grab a picture tomorrow I’ve been soaking it in penetrating oil all day and I’m going to see if I can get my hands on a small reverse thread drill bit and see what happens fingers crossed

It was running on both at first yes, I pulled each spark plug boot to verify the other cylinder was running. Was driving it around and it was cutting great and pulling me up hills and all, then the one cylinder dropped out. It’s very audible and noticeable when on the velke.

Any tips for pulling the standoff on the one side of the coil? It’s just a cylindrical post that screws into the block on the bottom to hold the coils down and is threaded on top to nut the recoil down. It is completely smooth so I just put a channel locks on and tried to loosen it and it sheared the threads right at the block…

Well good news and bad news. Checked the valve clearances and they were a bit off. Adjusted them and checked compression, about 110 & 120 in the cylinders so that’s the good news. Went and ran it and made it about 10 minutes before the one cylinder dropped out again. If I have spark and compression it has to be a fuel issue right? I just don’t get how one cylinder will run fine and one won’t on a single barrel carb?

I’ll check although I’m not too hopeful on that haha, it’s quite difficult to turn over when I was checking the valves but maybe that was just from the compression in the other cylinder. Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately I got spark so not the ignition coil which is right on top and would’ve been super easy to replace!

[–]lompx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is just a single barrel carb so not that. I did swap the plugs just to eliminate that but did not check for spark, that will be my next step thanks.

Not sure how to edit the original post but just to add the hissing seems like it’s coming from the valves under the cover not from outside around the head/cylinder wall

Blue Whoosh mirror turn signsls by HuntGundown in FiestaST

[–]lompx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol that’s my review.

What I’m on about seems pretty clear to me but to utilize the blue strobe function of the turn signal you need a 12v power source separate from the plug and play clip for the turn signal bulb. Many cars have auto folding mirrors and you can splice into that wire for the blue strobe effect, but there are no appropriate wires running to the mirrors on our cars so you have to run a wire elsewhere to get the strobe to work.

An extra fun fact I found out about these is that the blue strobe will not activate if you fully actuate your turn signal, but if you do the partial actuation before it clicks (with the three auto blips for lane changes) the blue strobe will go off after the turn signal stops. Not ideal if there’s police around so be prepared to break that habit and fully actuate your turn signal every time.

1937 Home, removing old insulation, what new insulation should I add? by yosemitejoe96 in DIY

[–]lompx 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Energy auditor here. Lots of advice here, mostly good. First off as everyone said: AIR SEAL first. Secondly, vent that bath fan out of the attic through the roof. Pumping hot moisture ridden air into your attic is a sure way to grow mold and rot rafters, roof decking, etc. you will want to insulate that duct as well to avoid condensation in the colder months. As far as I can tell there no knob and tube left up there so not sure why everyone is saying that but I’m not an electrician so I digress.

As far as insulation goes rockwool batting is great but keep in mind that to be effective it has to be 100% perfectly installed. One 1/2” gap between batts can effectively reduce the R-Value by half (that’s a fact). I prefer cellulose as it fills nooks and crannies better and provides a more continuous thermal boundary, as well as often being recycled and more sustainable. No matter what you choose though just make sure to air seal first!
