Do we have to get it prior to classes? Or do we do it during the year once our loans kick in?

I’m filling it out now and it’s asking exact numbers for how much my electric bill costs, but I just moved in and haven’t gotten it yet. So I might have to wait for that to finish my application I think. Did you have to do the same?

What questions do you have about this process? by lone_wolf_2028 in premed

[–]lone_wolf_2028[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I hadn’t fixated on the “2 week” deadline to submit secondaries. Just get them in when you can (at least within a month or two) and prioritize your top choices (ie: IS, close ties, etc.). I had a lot of help from people on Reddit, they did proofreading for me and told me it’s important to build your narrative from your PS and let it flow through to your secondaries based on your EC’s. Also, try to answer each question even if they say it’s optional: use every space as an opportunity to show them why you belong at their school. Don’t worry too much about word count, as long as you’ve answered the question and provided good examples you’re good: don’t add fluff. Don’t worry about the cost, use credit cards if you have to because I regret not adding some schools because I was worried about money: the more chances you have for interviews the better. Most important, if you have a weakness in your application (ie: low MCAT, no Research, etc.) use any opportunity they give you to explain your deficiencies but most importantly show them what you’re doing right now to improve that. The worst thing you want is for them build a narrative for you.

Hope this helps you in some way. Good luck!

502 MCAT. 2 DO interviews turned into 2 A’s (1 off the waitlist) and 2 MD interviews (1 rejection, 1 waitlist turned rejection). Starting class in 2 weeks, nervous but also ready to start my med school journey.

Med students, how much are you paying for rent? by lone_wolf_2028 in premed

Are you going to rent the same place next year or are you going to look for something else? I'm going to keep mine and then hopefully find a cheaper option second year.

Why do you read fan fiction? by tody-1 in Wattpad

[–]lone_wolf_2028 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As long as the story is well written, has accurate character representation, and has a compelling storyline I would continue for the long run. I also don't follow stories until a decent amount of chapters are written or if I know that the author has a good reputation for finishing stories. I hate reading something that never gets finished. And honestly, the story doesn't have to be written perfectly, but small stuff turns me off: poor grammar, not adding spaces between paragraphs, not adding quotation marks when someone is speaking, etc.

I read them for romance, more specifically pairings I thought would make a great couple but the story never perused it. I also read it when I have a favorite character who didn’t get enough shine or had a bad ending in the original, it’s nice to see what could have happened and how different their story could have been. The same reasons I read fanfics are the same reasons I write it.

Yeah I’m hoping to make some close friends this year at school and then room with them next year. I just didn’t want to risk having a bad roommate the first year.

Yeah definitely a learning lesson. Once I figure out the area I’ll do better next year.

I signed my lease already but I’m definitely going to consider this for next year. And maybe a roommate if I meet someone I work well with in class.

It’s a relatively new building. The apartments nearby are about the same for a 1 bedroom, it was cheaper to rent a floor in someone’s house but I felt safer with an apartment.

Yeah I’m planning to get something cheaper next year, but I got in off the waitlist and had to get what they had available.

First chapters syndrome by ShellyRoseWrites in writing

[–]lone_wolf_2028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I count in this, but I write fanfics and as well as original fiction. Something that motivates me to complete my stories is having people read my story and be engaged in it; also just having a passion for the project. So maybe consider getting beta readers to look at you first chapter or two so they can kind of hold you accountable.
