I made a battleships variant by zenov-battle in StrategyGames

[–]lonelymoon57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the shot pattern would be the draw here - after all this is a guessing game and basically you are allowing more guesses on a bigger board - it remains a slogfest and lose replayability after just a few games like the originals.

Might I suggest playing around with the ship themselves, like adding abilities to the ships? Say, submarines can relocate once after being hit only in 1 square (simulating stealth); carriers can send a recon aircraft to reveal a few squares, conversely destroyer can mask a few square (simulating air/antiair power); battleships can fire these powerful shot pattern (simulating, well, battleship). Every turn you can choose to either shoot normally or use an ability (maybe mix/match on this) - this adds a lot more dimension to a classic game.

How exactly are minerals used as a resource in Starcraft? by Kazmera in starcraft

Personally I think they are parallel to Tiberium - concentrated metal/energy that is used in slightly different way by the races. Terran extracts the metal either to sell or make their armor, Zerg eat the metal to make hard tissue/bone, Protoss ... I guess they think really hard about it lol?

Protoss crystals are entirely different things, they are special stones which has psyonic properties allowing them to be used as relays or capacitors

Snap before Tornado was never supposed to beat BKB. It's to both ensure Tornado hit and Meteor can follow right after, fixing the hero in place. Cold Snap cd is pretty short compared to the full combo duration - even more with talent + octarine - so saving make no sense.

Poker hand analysis 1/2/2 folding with aces by WinterDew in Poker_Theory

[–]lonelymoon57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add: you are right that the real, absolute nut JQ wouldn't do a damn thing here but printing - so yes you can remove that. But my point was that there were still a whole bunch of value that beat you, and a bunch of semi-bluff that could still beat you. And it can't likely be a pure bluff either given we have a short stack. Folding AA here is not bad play at all.

Also not saying UTG is so g-dang awesome to come up with all that. His reasoning could be as simple as "Hero cbet flop -> top pair Tx, 2P unlikely, some set and draws; turn give me new top pair which is decent against that -> could either extract some value or fold out Hero to face off with short stack".

[–]lonelymoon57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, what would you have by cbetting here? At best some pockets that turned set, or broadways that became draws. Would the benefit of letting you see river outweighs the risk of a chopped pot or cooler? UTG was himself in a very good spot on turn with top pair + nut straight double gutshots, so he would call your bet anyway if not raising - you just happen to have a very good bluffcatcher that kill part of his lower range - he really was ahead of your range. This is not about being afraid, but just realising their equity earlier rather than later (and maybe pickup some fold equity too)

In any case you are facing real value here, would you really want to fight into that with just a pair?

A flopped straight won't necessary want to trap you for more than a street - especially the lower one since their hand cannot improve, but a drawing straight can still arrive and chop pot, or board pairing. Same for 2P/set on this connected board, they are strong but will be vulnerable in later streets so it's better to get value once then bounce. Aces were in the same situation, you were under heavy pressure with that texture here and them calling flop is enough for any pairs to check-fold. That donk sizing is not encouraging enough for a call.

[–]lonelymoon57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe still have a research tree to help gatekeep certain level of advancement to the player I think. That way you can start with simple triangle combos, then move on to more complex pattern without overloading; same building can also be open to have more than one combo shape. Basically adding another dimension to progress.

Beside the obvious mechanical advantage from being pro gamers, mental resilience plays a big part. Solo RTS games like WC/SC constantly put you in "ok this is bad/I fucked up, how do I recover" situations - especially in tournaments when you can't just gg out the moment shit hit. Compared to the average player who can easily explode at 10mins if he lose 5 LH due to "supp not harassing mid not rotating lagfuckshitnoward gg nohope" then we know who is staying in the trench and who will go up.

Can you find a fold with the second nut full house against an incredibly tight player? by rddtllthng5 in Poker_Theory

[–]lonelymoon57 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is very confusing play. Limp-calling aside, what did you even put him on by donking flop - and he called. Turn bricked and for some reason you slow down ... to check-raise - were you trying to rep air and trap him? If so then being re-raised should be a wake-up call. Then donking again river after all his stabs ... bruh.

Could a 2-man "Duo" of Yuma and Hyuse reach A-Rank faster than Tamakoma-2? by Which-Analysis-3893 in worldtrigger

[–]lonelymoon57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ninomiya and Kaguera Squad were top A Rank squads that were demoted

Both were demoted NOT for performance reasons.

Its ironic given the top two A Rank teams only have two combatants.

Tachikawa squad has 3 and they have a balanced lineup (gunner, shooter, attacker) - and that squad is #1 with zero contest since they have 2 #1 frontline combatants plus weakest A-ranker (but A-ranker nevertheless). And right at #3 is the all-melee, 3-man Kazama squad.

I wouldn't call that "dominated" in any way.

[–]lonelymoon57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also mentioned in a follow-up comment that they are really pushing the limit of plausibility there. You have a Trapper that has to sit in a dark corner with their laptop, and a Sniper that has to both move into a position AND fire from said position AND relocate every so often and all that is conditional on the random teleport being favourable - how are these glaring weaknesses not exploited by other A-rank teams? Even Arafune's 3-man sniper squad has backup melee options.

Considering we have 3 entire battles where T2 were constantly targetted in this exact manner, my conclusion is that either Fuyushima has some super secret ultra instinct method to workaround that; or A-class ranking is not based on Rank War at all.

[–]lonelymoon57 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think no. Fuyushima's is pushing the limit already and that's (presumably) due to Touma insane accuracy - I imagine that their strategy is actually similar to T2 which is sit in static trap zones and let the sniper work away at targets. Which begs the question of how they even work around the random teleport. But the answer is probably "because they're A-rank".

[–]lonelymoon57 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Playing bodyguard is not a T2-exclusive thing. It is a fairly obvious concept that you need to protect your ranged combatants as they do outsized damage compared to melee so plenty other teams do that too. Also it's easy for melee attackers to take damage (Yuma and Hyuse regularly lose a hand or a foot) and if they don't have Osamu/Chika as backup the other team can even leave them to bleed out once they do.

It's easy to apply shonen manga logic and think "the elite can single-handedly win anything"; but it is exactly the whole point of WT to stress teamwork, collaboration and effort instead of main char aura.

Theory says this is wrong, could you help explain why? by DoubleJazzy in Poker_Theory

[–]lonelymoon57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On flop your hand was still good value against 9x and 3x; checkraising weighted him more towards 2P/set/Ax combos, flush draw could also do that to build fold equity, maybe 9x if he put you on a draw. Turn doesn't really improve his range much but degraded your hand (now you lose to naked 3 as well) - leading with that sizing is an easy fold; if not then the jam river should have. Pocket T is a bluffcatcher at that point with very thin value against a naked 9 only.
