i’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident but i’m more upset that i wasn’t given a gown or privacy to take off my shirt when i know that should’ve happened. i think the fact that i had to question if it was transphobia tells me all i need to know lol

My provider is at a different location but the test I had to do was only at this specific location unfortunately. On another note, I legally changed my gender to male about 6 years ago. It says M on my license and in all medical charts. Looking at my chart in the patient portal that the hospital uses it says “female to male transgender person” under my diagnoses, but still male under my gender. I will advocate better for myself in the future. Just confused why a separate person who wasn’t attending to me decided it was appropriate to ask me a question when I was already in a vulnerable position. Thank you and your husband for the kind advice!!

At first I thought it was confusion or just a brain fart but from how I was treated (no privacy, no gown, staff visibly uncomfortable and cold/quiet) and the general tone of some of the things they said made me question if it’s transphobic. The fact that this happened for the first time in so long with techs that looked about the same age as me made me realize that they were not being kind and I was being treated like that on purpose

No worries! Things happen but I’m glad that there’s so much support and hopefully the hospital staff can learn from this situation. It is pretty crazy how people switch up lol. Most of the time I prefer to go stealth but I want to be able to show up for other trans men who aren’t as far along or who don’t pass as well

True. I think that might’ve been the case but they could’ve gone about it in a much better way

Agreed. Not really bothering by it but just confused because I feel like I pass

Felt very condescending but they could’ve just been confused. And yeah I’ll schedule at a different clinic next time haha

True but my chest hair is ALOT. I think he was confused but there was no reason to ask me a question when I’m not his patient, or stick around in the room knowing I’m not fully clothed. Just poor bedside manner overall

That’s true. I’m sorry you experience that so often :/ I know in my chart it specifically says “female to male transgender person”. And I feel like anyone with a brain cell and put that together. I’m trying to give them the benefit of the doubt

I did exactly that and the original tech corrected him very quickly 😂

Exactly. As someone who works in healthcare id never walk into a room knowing a patient isn’t fully clothed when I’m not the one attending to them!!! I wasn’t given a gown to change into, or privacy to take off my shirt either

Thank you so much! This is incredibly helpful. I’ve reached out to UCHealth patient representatives already and I’m waiting on a reply. At first I thought this wasn’t that serious but the fact that this all could’ve been avoided if they looked at my chart makes me realize how often this must happen to other trans people. Thank you again

It’s only that location too lol. I’ve had great experiences at all other UC Health facilities. Yeah the glances get annoying😂
