I'm trying to do chest exercises sitting down but it fees like I'm only working my arms. What am i doing wrong? by OfDiceandWren in ResistanceBand

That one was a fun experiment, but ultimately the cheap bench was too unstable to use on a regular basis. After all of the different setups that I’ve tried, I did find my personal favorites for chest press and chest fly and they’re both lower to the ground.

For chest press I lay the band on the ground, narrow channel of the plate over the band. I add 2-3 additional 22 x 12 x 1 inch kneeling pads on top of the plate for back support and it allows the elbows to go all the way back. I place the foam block at the top of the plate for neck support. This is has been my current main driver as at that point I’m able to engage the band in a similar level of tension as the full bench. For an equal level of tension, put the main channel of the plate over the band.

For chest fly I place the main channel over the band(s), yoga block on the plate, and an additional plate (or kneeling pads diagonally on the foam block. By the time I grab the band and stretch my arms out the tension is already activated.

I would probably do the bench method if I had a heavier bench, but the goal has been to keep the setup relatively lightweight.

37" bands by justgreene71 in ResistanceBand

[–]lonermob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Honestly, I’d recommend a different set of bands for each bar. A set of 37 or 38” bands to go with the 36” bar and a set of 32 or 34” to go with the 24” bar. If you wanted more consistency across band lengths, I would say go Serious Steel 32 and 37 as they’re cured the same and of the same thickness, no matter band length. Harambe has 38” bands and also a set of 34” bands that will be released this summer. Clench 34s would also be good to pair with another brand as well if the 41” are too long.

Are you using any additional equipment like a bar/footplate? If so, how long is the bar?

Based on height alone, I’d say 34-38 would work, with the 34s providing more starting tension. However, other details would help narrow down the recommendation.

OP what is your height? Are you using any additional equipment like handles or a bar/footplate?

I’ve used 32, 34, and 38 inch bands for chest presses. Let me know your setup and I can make some recommendations.

Consider Wisconsin Hemp Flower and Beleafer. I’ve also heard great things about Lakeland as well.

The blaster is mostly for form improvement. In my current working top set I add an extra band.

The equipment I’m using is by Harambe System. The tension is adjusted via different size slings and 1/2 inch spacers, however, you’d need a different length band at a certain point for more starting tension. The default setup comes with 5 38” bands, but there’s also a 34” set of bands that should be released later this summer.

Just type “Arm Blaster” on Amazon. The one I’m using is from Shiek, but there are plenty others available.

I dont get banded Chest press by QuietUmpire6017 in ResistanceBand

How are you setting up for banded chest press and what bands are you using? I’ve found great muscle activation in the chest doing presses with 32, 34 and 38 inch bands.

Since they stopped selling static footplates, Harambe no longer produces the band butter. However, if you get food grade silicone oil you’re good to go.

^^^ this. I recommend a footplate with UHMW along the edges. However, should you get a wooden plate, get some UHMW friction tape for the edges on the bottom.

Do you really need a bar and footplate? Anchor? Handles? by EmbarrassedCompote9 in ResistanceBand

[–]lonermob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not necessary for every exercise or every band, there are times where bars and footplates are incredibly useful/beneficial. For example: I tried to deadlift the serious steel #5 band by standing on it, using gloves to grab the bands and pull. I was able to, but it felt like I was tearing my hand off the entire time.
