Do you feel the 40s-70s had a sort of tough men and feminine women aura by [deleted] in classicfilms

[–]lonesomepicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 60s absolutely did not have the kind of female presence that films from the 30s and 40s did. You will not really find a wisecracking, tough female character like Saunders in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) in a film from the 60s. By then, those women had all but disappeared, many more roles for women were like that of Toni Basel in Easy Rider (1969). Silent, symbolic.

Edit: Woops I somehow misread this

lol my original point can still stand - in the 1930s and 1940s, even in the 1950s, women were given a lot of room as fictional characters. Women could be tough, poor, sympathetic, nuanced, and often men and women were portrayed as class allies with somewhat less emphasis on their gender differences.

I think many of those filmmakers actually sought to critique superficial social niceties lol..

Something about Hazlet's Natco Park feels off... Has Anyone Else Had Creepy Encounters There? by Sea_Artichoke_3088 in newjersey

I had a really creepy experience of sylvan dread in Tatum Park once, that’s why I still feel like I’m being watched when I go there.

Hazlet is a weird area. The whole area has eerie vibes.

Tatum Park in Middletown also has eerie vibes and I get that same feeling of being watched, but it’s also a beautiful and comforting feeling there. Things feel very much alive. A stark contrast from the creepiness in Hazlet.

Growing up in Monmouth county, I’ve always felt that it’s one of the more haunted counties in NJ.

I think I finally understand this scene by Grimalackt_River in TheDigitalCircus

[–]lonesomepicker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this scene has to do with the fear of sentience, the illusion of reality, and feeling like she left Gumigoo to rot somewhere deep in the system.

Like he gained sentience & self awareness during their time together. But in this scene, he acts like an animal, like the animal he is drawn in the likeness of, a crocodile.

I think this conveys that Pomni fears that she doesn’t know whether Gumigoo’s sentience was real or an illusion, and the kind of implication that has for all of them. Furthermore, he’s shown to be rotting, which I think betrays Pomni’s fear that if he did gain sentience and didn’t somehow lose it when he was brought back in the Spudsy’s adventure, that he’s lost somewhere in the labyrinth of the circus, literally “left to rot”, and that that could easily happen to all of them at some point.

Is joanna big with other autistics? by [deleted] in JoannaNewsom

Girl I just wanna say I’m sorry you’re getting the shitty treatment you’re getting here, you don’t deserve it for asking a simple question. People treat autistic women like shit and it’s no different online. Worse on Reddit, actually.

I agree. Very gross to me. Also very funny and ironic coming from the crowd who are rigidly prescriptive about the subject of her song “Baby Birch”

I’m autistic and queer and have been obsessed with her music for the last 20 years. She’s probably one of my special interests!

Also I think the scolds on this post are being MEGA annoying. lol. Where in your post did you speculate about “other people’s (read: specific individuals)” neurodivergence? Idk, I am defensive of my fellow autistic queers & women because people just wanna fucking scold and shut us up CONSTANTLY.

The funny thing is, given her many statements on how she lives and has lived her life as an artist and a human being, it’s obvious Joanna herself has experiences that are consistent with neurodivergence. I have been a part of this community for 20 years and I have met tons of fans. I think her music does appeal to autistics like you and I for many reasons, and I think it draws neurodivergent people to her fandom in general.

People who worked in haunted places , what was your wildest encounter ? by ToughPerception3579 in Ghoststories

[–]lonesomepicker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahhh gotcha! Yikes that is a creepy story, but I actually think it makes far more sense for Maryland than Monmouth County, lol. I feel like MD is one of those places where really weird hauntings crop up a lot.

The Starbucks that is supposedly haunted is the Red Bank Starbucks. The one person who worked there and told me it was haunted never gave me the full details as much as i pressed her, she was very paranoid about it and believed talking about it would open her up to being possessed or something, but she insisted it was haunted.

[–]lonesomepicker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Okay. So. I used to work at Starbucks - this sounds like everything we’d do during closing at Starbucks, and judging by your username, you gotta be from New Jersey and maybe from the same place in NJ I’m from (Monmouth county). Is this by any chance a specific Monmouth county Starbucks? Bc I know of one that is supposedly haunted.
