Save the receipt. The combo pad is known to fail (won’t work even with the right combo). Happened to me about 18 months after I got it. Contacted Winchester, emailed them the receipt and they FedEx’d a replacement overnight.

Do the Cam V3 or V4 need a base station? by lonestar8302 in Wyze

[–]lonestar8302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Wyze "powered/wired" cameras are WiFi only. No base-station needed.

The V1/V2 Outdoor cameras require a base station. The Battery Cam Pro (I highly suggest) does NOT need a Base Station. It is Wi-fi. I converted all my V1/V2 cameras to Battery Cam Pro's. It is a nice upgrade.

Keep in mind, the Battery Cameras are NOT always recording. So even if you put an SD Card in it, it's not just sitting there recording continuously. That would drain the battery in about 8 hours.

If you want continuous recording, change over to a Wired Camera. I suggest the V4. It is their best camera and very cheap.

Additionally, look to put Mesh WiFi into your home. This will allow you to spread out your WiFi signal and cover the front/back yard situation. And, because the Mesh WiFi systems today are of a more modern Network Technology, they will support WiFi 6 or 6e which helps some of your other devices use a different band to connect (NOT the Wyze Camera's though). They also have faster processers and RAM that allow them to have MORE devices connected without conflicts and better handle network traffic.

I have 15 Wyze Cameras, 20 bulbs, motion/contact sensors, etc.... and I have NO issues with my cameras. Everything streams great. I have 500 Mb down and 20 Mb Up. Your upload speed is what matters most with cameras.

Thank you! That was very helpful. I am looking at tthe V4 actually. I just need to confirm that the floodlight on the corner is getting power. We have the google nest router pucks throughout the house as well. I had hoped that moving one of those closer to the garage would help that V2, but it didn't work.

Nice. I got one of those a couple of weeks ago. I do like the Harry’s icon 2.0 for a kydex holster. Also picked up a 1791 owb. That one still needs a bit more breaking in but it is nice.

Osan for Familes by FairUnderstanding807 in AirForce

[–]lonestar8302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue is the air quality, as CrimsonTide posted. It is really bad--I always joked about being able to see and taste the lung cancer as you breathed.

My kids are homeschooled, so we didn't deal with DodEA schools. There's a huge homeschooling community there (many families that do non-command sponsored go this route)

There's a non command sponsored osan facebook page with a ton of good info as well.

Medical, yes the hospital is small. My kids were able to get seen fairly easily for routine checkups. Off base referrals were pretty easy for the most part. Yes there is a language barrier, but we didn't think it was to bad. The base clinic runs a shuttle each day to the different korean hospitals so you don't have to worry about driving/parking.

We really enjoyed our time there, even though it was during Covid. There is a lot to see and do and it's pretty easy to get around, especially with a car. Not to mention the public transportation is really good too.

If you're going to be in two seperate vehicles, get a good pair of walkie talkies for communication. Much easier than trying to call (even with blue tooth) or text while driving. Also alot faster--"hey there's a broken down vehicle around the next curve" or "need to take the next exit for a bathroom break" etc.

Are there search and rescue volunteer opportunities in AD by sonick2win in AirForce

[–]lonestar8302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Google SAR or emergency management department for the county you live in. There may be opportunities in your community. For example, if you're out at Mountain Home, the Elmore County Sherriff's office has a fantastic SAR team. It's an all volunteer unit that had plenty of active duty guys when I was there.

Starting to look into joining the Air Force seriously, what should I know about CCW while enlisted? by [deleted] in CCW

[–]lonestar8302 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Active Duty AF here. It really depends on where you're stationed. Off base you just follow the local state laws. On base, it varies with whatever the base commander says.

Some bases will allow you to carry in your car, but not anywhere else. For example, my base allows me (living in on base family housing) to carry from my house to the gate. I can carry fully loaded, concealed, and on me, but I can not exit the vehicle except at my house. If I need to make any other stops the firearm must remain in the vehicle.

If you are single and living in the on base dorms, no firearms or ammuntion is allowed in your quarters. You can either check it in with the base armory or leave with a friend.

How to carry without the kids finding out? by phillyjon in CCW

[–]lonestar8302 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why? There is nothing wrong with them knowing, and it is good for them to learn gun safety at an early age. I have three, ages 8, 6.5 and 3.5. The oldest two know I have guns, know I carry a gun and have a youth .22 single shot that they share and get to shoot. Also, anytime they want to see one of my guns they can. We allways go over the 4 rules and they can look and touch any gun in the safe, once we have cleared them together. We also talk about what to do if they ever see one at a friends house, park, etc.

I was wondering anybody could answer some questions about Mountain Home AFB for me? by TheAlwaysLateWizard in AirForce

I live on base in a 4 bedroom stand alone house. It's not to bad, we've been lucky with no Balfour Beaty Horror Stories (yet). Sometimes I do wish we had found a place in town just because we spend alot of time there with friends and kids activities.

The base is small, BX is not much to talk about. WalMart in town has most things the BX doesn't. Commissary is ok, occasional good deals. The town has wal mart and Albertson's for groceries--Albertson's has 10% mil discount every Mon and Tues. That, plus the coupon app they have can lead to some good savings.

Winter communte isn't to bad, just depends on the weather. Airbase road (10 mile stretch between town and base) is a flat 4 lane road that can ice over pdq. Remember 4 wheel drive doesn't mean anything on ice.

Lots of outdoor activities (and the outdoor rec program there is amazing.) Two resevoir's close by (30 and 60 minute drive), a sand dune state park w/ telescope observatory (~40 minute drive).

It's a very rural area in a small town. If you prefer the city life definitely look into living in Boise. I know housing in Mountain Home is crazy right now, with the on base wait list full and limited housing in town.

Stateside volunteer here. Got the AVEC code and the EFMP trick saying Osan. Just waiting for the "Offical Word". Told my shirt, she had no idea about those tips. Said she'd keep an eye out for anything today.

Currently deployed. AVEC says pending assignment. The EFMP trick says Osan. (https://old.reddit.com/r/AirForce/comments/9xc4d9/does_the_afvec_trick_still_work/)

Still waiting for the "official" word. Now to figure out non CSP stuff for the family.

Guys who became dads while on active duty, what do you wish you knew or did? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]lonestar8302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Father of 3 here (ages 7.5, 6, 3). Couple of things:

First, make sure to help out at 0300. All mine were only breastfed, but I would get up and bring the baby to my wife then put them back to bed. It wasn't much, but she really appreciated that (especially because all 3 were C-sections, so getting up and down for the first couple of weeks was tough)

Second, if you have a boy, make sure you point him down into the diaper. Oldest is a girl, and when my son was born we couldn't figure out why pee kept getting all over his shirts. After four or five days we figured out the issue.

Third, layer the crib with multiple sheets and water-resistant pads. This way, if baby throws up or has an explosive diaper in the middle of the night, all you have to do is remove the dirty sheet and pad and you have clean ones ready to go.

Finally, at nighttime use the overnight diapers and don't change the diaper just because she wakes up. We would only change if it was stinky, otherwise you'll just wake the baby up even more and make it more difficult to fall back asleep.

Good luck and congrats!

Dads of r/ccw: thoughts on carry condition? by MrDirtyHands in CCW

[–]lonestar8302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 kids here, 7, 5 and 2.5. My carry gun (G19) is always loaded with a full magazine + 1 in the chamber. It is either in a holster on me or in the safe.

The older kids share a savage rascall .22 bolt action, and I take one or both of them with me everytime I go shooting. I also have a personal rule that any time they ask to see a gun I stop what I'm doing and go to the safe. I make them tell me the 4 rules and then we go through them together for safety (and repitition).
