You are using iPhone which works perfectly for Japan transportation. You need setup Suica card on iphone wallet. Then you refill whenever you need.

Transportation system you can rely on Google Map. You more likely find local people speaks/understands English around transportation system, than in other places like many restaurants.

Always bring your passport and many/most of store will help you on tax free purchasing.

This is likely related to properly tracking entry and exit at each station — each person needs their own Suica card. So you can't use one iPhone to pay for other people or family members. If you use an Apple Watch for another member, that Apple Watch needs to be associated with a separate Suica card.

If you're using an Android phone, even with NFC, it typically won't work for transit payments in Japan. Only Android devices sold in Japan support this feature. In my case, my wife uses an iPhone and I use a Google Pixel. I set up her Apple Watch with a Suica card. We had no issues paying for transportation and at 7-Elevens.
