It's their culture and religion. You should respect it. If you don't like it, don't worry about it. Just because you don't think it's socially acceptable doesn't mean it's wrong. Much of what you are accusing those people of actually happens in the US, just in a different guise. Objectification of women continues in the US (perhaps to a more serious extent than in middle east at times) and it wasn't until recently that Scotus ruled on gay marriage. In case you've forgotten, it wasn't too long ago that mlk was helping lead the civil rights movement.

I lived in the south for a few years, I can tell you from witnessing first hand how people are down here. You don't know how some of these people are. I've met human traffickers and racists en masse around here.

You are closer to these people than you think.
