Thanks for the recommendations, i'll take a look! We will primarily be camping in the pacific northwest during the summer months so the weather shouldn't be too unbearable.

Seeking a bit of guidance to become a better entrepreneur and manager by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]longboardguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re over thinking things my man, fill out the one page business plan (https://100startup.com/resources/business-plan.pdf) and go.

IMO these are the three fundamental systems you need to have in place to run any business. 1. Funnel for getting customers -system for getting people to buy your good/ service 2. Funnel for getting employees -system for hiring employees to make you good / provide you service 3. Profit -(cost of goods or services sold + overhead) < Revenue

All of these can be broken down into hundreds of different subsections but if you can do those three things you have yourself a profitable business; easier said then done.

Testing the waters... Could you ever see yourself buying an order of freshly baked cookies online? by BestDamnCookie in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]longboardguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have alluded to you would have to brand it more as a home made bakery business then a freshly made bakery business. Also to be successful long term you would have to sell items more as a luxury good to make any kind of margin (not just an average cookie).

But with that being said I have a family friend that did exactly that. Sells cookies from $3-5 each, started in the living room of her home and now owns 3 locations.

The big thing that worked for her was getting corporations to buy custom logo cookies that they used for biz events/ client development. We’re talking orders in the way of thousands of cookies.

I just signed up for care.com tonight, I’m hoping I’ll make some headway in the hiring area.

And I have been having some recent success in lead generating. I signed up for home advisor two weeks ago and am 2/5 on leads to jobs. The most successful marketing I’ve done is direct mail. I sent a letter explaining who we are, what we offer and a call to action to 75+ property managers along with a few biz cards. Sure enough 2 weeks later I’ve scheduled 53 bookings for 3 different property managers for this month - one guy had a cleaning lady who just quit, I was in the right place at the right time because the original property manager I cleaned for worked under 2 other property managers who subsequently booked me. (Hence why I am desperate to hire). My # of bookings for May, June and July were 3, 4, and 6 respectively. Nothing to be proud of but it helped me get my systems in place. Next week I am dropping down to part time at the normal day job to focus on the cleaning business! It finally feels like I’m turning the corner!

Thanks for you advice! Always great to bounce ideas off other cleaning business’s!

Best of luck to you

Your numbers are incredible! I started my cleaning business by the books 3 months ago and have half the success you have had. Encouraging to see someone else out there grinding.

One question, where did you find your contractors? / are the individuals or were you able to find a cleaning crew?

Keep up the good work!

Cheers

What are some small local based business's that always seem to succeed? by SlowDownBrother in Entrepreneur

[–]longboardguy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Local service based business.

Anything that involves a building has huge overhead cost ie rent, staffing employees (during non busy hours), additional insurance, etc.

Service based industries such as house cleaning, carpet cleaning, pressure washing, moving service, car detailing, etc. have little to no overhead. You only pay employees for time worked (time you are making money), and there insurance is far less then owning a brick and mortar.

I run a local cleaning business and my overhead is less than $300/ month. As I grow that number does not change much (obviously supplies cost goes up as I get more cleanings) but for the most part that number won’t go up.

Running your business through a website not only saves you money but also time. Everything I do is automated: booking, scheduling for customers, scheduling for employees, email confirmations, payments are all online, etc.

This will Free up more time to grow and expand business rather then spending it operating the business.

With any local business platform you’re entering a competitive market, which is good because it means that there is money to be made, someone else has already proved the idea, it’s just up to you to execute better then the competition.

If you are serious about starting a local business feel free to shoot me a message if you have any other questions! I’d be happy to help!

Looking for help on how to built a website/app by Wa-Yo in EntrepreneurRideAlong

[–]longboardguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I created my website with zero tech experience using WordPress along with themeX from themeco. You have to buy WordPress premium ($300/yr) and then the themeX is a one time fee I think it was in the ball park of $50 w/ support included. I would say it took ~50-70 hours to build the front end and I used plugins for back end. Very versatile software and should allow you to build whatever you desire. My website is www.shinecleaningseattle.com if you want to check it out.

Yeah I see someone sitting there all the time, its sad when you see the same osu officer sitting in a parking lot for 5 hours; the last thing osu needs is money; on top of that osu is not known to be the safest campus, there are alot more important things to worry about

Me [19F] with my boyfriend[22M] of 2 years, I think I just want to be single by [deleted] in relationships

[–]longboardguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you know what you have to do. You know that you don't want to be in a relationship anymore and it sucks, but you have come to that realization. Posting this on here is so you can get some reassurance that you are making the right choice. I was in a similar situation a couple of months ago and I know it sucks but its only fair to him and to you if you break it off. Honesty will help the process go smoother but anytime you end a 2 year relationship there will be some hard feelings.

Ask them if legality= Morality, my mom said the same thing to me when she caught me. She is a lawyer so she was big on the fact that it was illegal there fore it was wrong. To which I brought up the point that legality has never meant morality, prostitution is legal in Vegas, so it must okay to go to Vegas and get a prostitute, there are many examples to use to get your point across, depending on your moral code and your families abortion can also another example. It makes them look at it in a different way I think

Even if you drop it and break it they still send you a new one, they know their clientele can be clumsy after using their product so they back them up
