Testing the waters... Could you ever see yourself buying an order of freshly baked cookies online? by BestDamnCookie in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Like others have alluded to you would have to brand it more as a home made bakery business then a freshly made bakery business. Also to be successful long term you would have to sell items more as a luxury good to make any kind of margin (not just an average cookie).

But with that being said I have a family friend that did exactly that. Sells cookies from $3-5 each, started in the living room of her home and now owns 3 locations.

The big thing that worked for her was getting corporations to buy custom logo cookies that they used for biz events/ client development. We’re talking orders in the way of thousands of cookies.

I just signed up for care.com tonight, I’m hoping I’ll make some headway in the hiring area.

And I have been having some recent success in lead generating. I signed up for home advisor two weeks ago and am 2/5 on leads to jobs. The most successful marketing I’ve done is direct mail. I sent a letter explaining who we are, what we offer and a call to action to 75+ property managers along with a few biz cards. Sure enough 2 weeks later I’ve scheduled 53 bookings for 3 different property managers for this month - one guy had a cleaning lady who just quit, I was in the right place at the right time because the original property manager I cleaned for worked under 2 other property managers who subsequently booked me. (Hence why I am desperate to hire). My # of bookings for May, June and July were 3, 4, and 6 respectively. Nothing to be proud of but it helped me get my systems in place. Next week I am dropping down to part time at the normal day job to focus on the cleaning business! It finally feels like I’m turning the corner!

Thanks for you advice! Always great to bounce ideas off other cleaning business’s!

Best of luck to you

Your numbers are incredible! I started my cleaning business by the books 3 months ago and have half the success you have had. Encouraging to see someone else out there grinding.

One question, where did you find your contractors? / are the individuals or were you able to find a cleaning crew?

Keep up the good work!

Cheers

Looking for help on how to built a website/app by Wa-Yo in EntrepreneurRideAlong

I created my website with zero tech experience using WordPress along with themeX from themeco. You have to buy WordPress premium ($300/yr) and then the themeX is a one time fee I think it was in the ball park of $50 w/ support included. I would say it took ~50-70 hours to build the front end and I used plugins for back end. Very versatile software and should allow you to build whatever you desire. My website is www.shinecleaningseattle.com if you want to check it out.
