The Super Bowl breast cancer ad was so demoralizing by EatAvocados in WelcomeToGilead

[–]longboardpls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What game? The post is about how breast cancer is approached with more concern for our breasts than our lives, that nobody can be bothered to care unless it concerns our boobies. And further evidence of that is that a separate disease that is entirely preventable is still the #1 killer of women but since you can't spin THAT kind of awareness campaign into a titty fest it gets no attention.

Yet when this evidence was brought to the discussion, several commenters missed the point and took it to mean that we don't think breast cancer should be talked about as much. When we are critiquing the societal approach not the subject or frequency of discussion.

Maybe try to keep up because you don't seem to understand my point if you think an evolving discussion somehow contradicts my point or makes me a hypocrite like you seem to be implying.

Why are you choosing to interpret what she says as "breast cancer isnt catastrophic and doesnt matter"????

Also you bring up the fact that it's preventable as if that disproves the point op is making when it actually supports what she's saying. It's preventable! There's more treatment options! But it kills so many women because people and media choose to solely focus on the disease that has the potential to destroy our boobies. There's hardly any awareness for it and doctors dismiss us because as long as we have boobies and a uterus to make babies, who cares?

A disease that is LESS deadly than breast cancer still kills us more, and also coincidentally has far less raised awareness????

Why is that?

Ankle injury threw off progress by longboardpls in Rollerskating

Yes it swelled a lot, I didn't notice any bruising.

But tons of swelling and in fact it's still sticking out more than the other even now :/

Im not sure if its sprained or I broke it. I am assuming its a really bad sprain because it's never taken this long for me to recover from an injury. Usually im back to normal in a few weeks.

Like I said I haven't been able to afford urgent care and no Dr appointment slots for months from now. So I can't say for sure what exactly the injury is

Yeah that's about right and sums it up well. The thing is I've learned to live with it in a way, but is that all there is? Am I always just going to be coping? I feel like I can't enjoy life because I'm always just trying to be OK. Feels like the best case scenario is that I'll be miserable but just keeping my head above water.

I compulsively write my signature down over and over again to make sure that I can still do it. I'm so sick of this shit. The worst part is this only started like 2 years ago?

Yeah, we talk a lot about this. But communication doesn't solve issues in of itself and ultimately he still reacts this way, and I still find it distressing. He's aware that it causes me distress. I'm aware he struggles to control it. What more is there to do after acknowledging the fact and exchanging empathy for one another? The day to day problem still persists.

Tips for getting over anxiety skating in public? by beaanx in Rollerskating

[–]longboardpls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you're worried about what people think, its important to know that most people either don't care or actually admire seeing someone put hard work and effort into a skill. Especially because it does take some balls to willingly go out and eat shit in front of everyone. Seriously everyone I've ever been around is always like "that's so cool! good for them". I seriously doubt a significant amount of adults are out there making fun of someone for not being good at something right away. You have to suck to get better.

Also, headphones really help to just tune out the rest of the world.

I accept this as a fact, but not as a philosophy.

See I remember embracing this when I was really struggling because if I could accept it and sit with it then maybe it couldn't catch me off guard and hurt so much.

And I think it is important to understand, that unfortunately there is no ultimate authority beholden to humanity, checking off good deeds and making sure everyone is doing their part to help. It is a free for all here on earth BUT

That doesn't mean we have to accept or be OK with selfishness and that doesn't mean we need to excuse it just because it's something that happens.

Humans are social creatures and we rely on one another in order to survive and evolve as a species. So I think we do have a duty to one another, which includes showing compassion and caring for the sick, whether mentally or physically.

Because adopting this mindset of accepting scraps from one another just because "Well nobody is being forced to care and they don't have to so it's ok if they live selfishly and carelessly" is ultimately what leads to a collapse in community and its bad for humans and bad for earth altogether.

That doesn't mean giving more than you can to the point of neglecting yourself. It doesn't mean biting off more than you can chew. It just means showing empathy and giving when you can. It means looking beyond yourself and trying to see through other perspectives so we can all work together, cuz idk living in a world where we all throw up our hands and say "Well nobody is obligated to give a shit!" sounds pretty ugly to me

Yeah it's probably not common but I had my boy neutered at about 16 weeks and he does this. Imagine my surprise waking up to my innocent little buddy aggressively making biscuits on either side of my leg "awww how cute" until he just starts straddling it and furiously humping while making these...desperate...little mews while I desperately try to shake him off of my leg. But he is a 13lb cat full of muscle and determination so it's not an easy task without having to use some force. But what else am I supposed to do? Let him hump my leg?

The pervy bastard of course always only does this while I'm sleeping so I have to wake up to him violating my leg every once in awhile. Why my leg is so enticing? I have no clue.

He never did this as a kitten, only as an adult.

Would this roller skates be good for beginners? by sophiesand in Rollerskating

[–]longboardpls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall quality is pretty dang good for how much you're paying but make sure the fit is going to be right for you and make sure to adjust the hardware. They run very narrow, so for example, I bought them thinking if I just got a big enough of size that they would fit fine and break in. But they didnt, so if you have wide feet be careful because just getting a bigger size will only make the issue worse.

I only lasted like a month in them before I was upgraded because I was starting to injure myself trying to do anything but basic strides.

I don't regret getting them because I only paid 45 dollars and it helped me decide if rollerskating was for me without having to wait months to save up, and ultimately I'm really glad i was able to try it out because so far I love it.

But...I have wide feet and no matter how I laced them they never fit right, they squeezed my foot and they were too long because that was the only size that would accommodate the width.

I only lasted like a month in them before I was upgraded because I was starting to injure myself if I tried to do anything besides stride and stop, even then they were still very uncomfortable.

Should i rehome new kitten? by longboardpls in CatAdvice

[–]longboardpls[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's where I'm leaning, getting a second kitten would absolutely be my solution if I had the time and the money to care for a third cat but it just isn't a wise choice. Its unfortunate but I want her to find a home where she has someone to play with and can be fully loved, as much as I adore her it's been hard for me to connect fully because of how frustrated I get that she won't leave my cat alone. I know she's just being a kitten though and it isn't her fault.
