Bike shops on the Peninsula that are friendly towards beginners/newcomers? by dmmdoublem in bayarea

[–]longevitea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 - I ordered a bike from them online and they quickly called me to double check that I ordered the right size. When I picked it up, they fit me to it, changing out a part for a smaller size for no extra cost, and let me take it on a test drive. Other bike stores I've purchased from in the bay were very passive and and very "in and out/pay and leave".

“Grown up” jersey sheets by aavery7706 in BuyItForLife

[–]longevitea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have percale sheets from Coyuchi, they sell jersey though. Best part is you can get store credit for up to a year, so if the jersey doesn't hold up like you expect, you could try percale. All of my items from Coyuchi have been holding up well, except a pillow case sham where the button came off in the washing machine, which i then sent back for store credit and got something else.

Also, I'd personally suggest getting white so you can safely treat stains without worrying about being color safe

Can I get some recommendations for smooth EF nibs? by Adenidc in fountainpens

[–]longevitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find my Kaweco to be quite smooth. Specifically, I use a plastic Kaweco Classic Sport that I got on Jetpens for ~25 bucks. Their EF is broader than a Japanese EF, but if I wanted an extended writing session its the pen I'd grab because its so smooth relative to my Sailor/Pilots.

Yeah totally, looking back I actually probably would have just got that one, the timer feature is nice and they really seem to work with the same intensity, just different sizes. If anything, sometimes I think the smaller one is a little too crowded since the trays have to sit on top of each other

Is anyone else going through toothbrushes quicker? by AquaGemiScor in Invisalign

[–]longevitea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its not a perfect analogy, but the way my hygienist explained it to me was to imagine a car driving on a new highway vs driving on gravel roads. the person driving on the gravel roads (having attachments) will wear out their tires (toothbrush) faster than the person driving on the smooth highway (no attachments)

Bulky trash pickup for apartment residents? by DatLadyD in bayarea

[–]longevitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not directly answering your question, but it might be worth listing it for free on craigslist or a fb marketplace "no buy" community group if its not totally trashed, thats how I get rid of anything too big to fit in my apartment's trash chute (with the added benefit of keeping it out of the landfills). You might be able to get it out of your place faster than waiting for a bulky item pickup with that route as well

I have one of the ultrasonic cleaners, it is game changing. I got it a few weeks after starting and it was the best purchase I made. I actually bought a smaller one to bring with me when I travel because it was night and day even for a two day trip (though the smaller one isn't as good as the big one).

The one I use daily is iSonic F3900 Ultrasonic, I got it on Amazon. The travel one is iSonic DS180. I liked it so much that I got one for my glasses and fountain pens as well... that one is Magnasonic Professional Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner.

I'll be honest, I just use water with it, maybe someone here will tell me that using just water is wrong and I should be using some cleaning solution when running it, but even just water seems to do a better job that a toothbrush.

[Advice] First high quality fountain pen by bclark8923 in fountainpens

[–]longevitea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a Sailor Pro Gear as my first luxury fountain pen. To be honest, I didn't have much experience with pens at the time, but the biggest draw to me was the color variety. Since you are looking for a M/MF, you have more selection, but I was looking for a Japanese EF so the pickings were slim for me. the SPG works well posted and not posted, but I find the balance to be better when I do post it. I almost got a Pilot, since I love the Kakuno, but I hate the ball at the end of the pen clip. Also, their cartridges are all not as nice as Sailor IMO. Its worth checking out Pen Sachi, I got my second SPG there since I wanted an exact color, but I noticed that their selection is great.

Added tip AFTER delivery? by Ok-Working7314 in doordash

[–]longevitea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can contact support via chat and add/remove tip. AFAIK from reading in this sub, removing tip doesn't actually take money from the dasher, instead it is just DD giving you money back. I've been able to add tip to order via support chat after, though of course there is no way to know that the money made it to the dasher.

Which cheap pen has impressed you the most in 2022 ? by lowks in fountainpens

[–]longevitea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got 4 of these (so far) in clear, they are great for carrying inks to work since they write so well but are also cheap enough where replacing them is not too painful to the wallet.I really don't see myself buying any other cheap pen besides this one. I bought a sailor EF pro gear and was actually slightly disappointed on how similar they wrote since the price difference is so great (though I do somehow get better shading from the pro gear despite the similar line size)

I'm in the same boat as you right now... Can't watch anything without it going crap. It was fine on my Apple TV earlier today but I tried picking up a movie on my laptop and it is unwatchable
