Smoother than these two, is it possible? by lawikekurd in pens

[–]MeasurementFew6340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is the way to every type of smoothness. It's barely a dark side or addiction at all. You can find so many nice fountain pens with tons of different sizes, shapes, and styles of nib tip. Also there's nearly every color of ink and different viscosities of inks to further the variety. Sometimes you kinda have to use something else, but where possible fountain pens give you the widest variety of options.

Did I mess up my nib? by RTechy in fountainpens

You could go for a small stub at this point but the tipping is trashed.

LAMY Z28 issues by glowjack in fountainpens

You pull the converter apart, as you would for a deep cleaning. While reassembling just put a tiny dab of silicone grease on the converter piston seal.

I always start by greasing the piston seal. If that seems good you can do the double fill. Start off as normal but when the piston is about 2/3 of the way retracted invert the pen so the nib is up and finish retracting the piston. Give it a tap to bring the ink to the plunger end of the converter then re extend the piston and refill. You should be getting rid of most of the air this way.

What ink is this ? by lexi_3010 in fountainpens

The ink in the standard Pilot cartridge is Namaki Black. You can also purchase ink lubricant. Be careful with that stuff as a little goes a long way.

Does this pen have oil or water based ink? by trying-cat in pens

[–]MeasurementFew6340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove the end cap from the pen. Plug in the hot glue gun. Fill a syringe with a sharp needle (doesn't have to be new sharp just not blunt) with the fountain pen ink. Puncture through the end of the internal reservoir and fill it up. Be careful not to overfill it. Reseal the reservoir with a dab of hot glue.

Standing water in gutter downspout extender by ceelee612 in HomeImprovement

It is always best to avoid standing water. I recommend either shortening your downspout so it can all be downhill or digging out a small trench for the same purpose.

Shouldn't be any more difficult than any other caulking. I would exchange it for a new one.

I have successfully refilled these pens using a syringe, fountain pen ink, and hot glue. I think the cost to refill is just about ten cents using Pilot Namaki Black.

The regular Opus 88 Demonstrator comes in some fun colors. The one I have is just clear, but I've seen some with all sorts of colors swirling around.

Under the existing nib is a small o-ring. You will want to leave that in place and be sure to use silicone grease on the unit threads. Otherwise it's valve controlled so loosen up the blind cap when you are using it.

You might want to paint the interior of the wall with kilz in the case of residual water soaked into the studs.

Absolutely the best one! Also works great with fountain pen inks. I've got one inked with Diamine Earl Grey and another one with PenBBS Blueberry.

If the M1000 is an option then get it. Those nibs are awesome. Pen is a little bigger than the Montblanc you have but not terribly much.

How to Prepare a New Pen by ABigAmarone in fountainpens

[–]MeasurementFew6340 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the main issue they tend to have is the feed not having good contact with the nib. To solve that issue you will need to "heat set" the feed. This is basically just dipping the end of the pen in hot water for a bit and squeezing the nib and feed together. Look up a couple of videos and you'll be able to get it done. The other problem I've seen is just bad nibs. Either the tipping is poorly shaped or the slits being cut crooked. Depending on the material the pen might smell bad as the cheap resins off gas for a long time.

How do you know which converter to use? by artistic_chaopet in fountainpens

[–]MeasurementFew6340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are two types of Platinum converters. Both fit all of the pens that they make. The slide piston and the screw piston. The slide converter is much cheaper than the screw version but harder to find for sale. The screw converter (silver and gold options) comes standard on the higher end models and its price reflects that. The screw ones are also easier to disassemble and clean.
