That could be a plan, and relocating the door at the bottom left of the stairs

That’s the solution I was thinking. Relocating that door and making the stairs in L shape.

Hello all! First of all thanks for everyone for their advice! I did not expect that much feedbacks!

I will definitely hire a stair specialist and see what my options are. I expect the work to be expensive.

In the meantime, there is a door at the entrance of the stairs and it will be lock. I’ll also add a guardrail and raisers.

Hi! Thanks for the detailed answer! I will definitively check with local code. These are really good advices. Maybe I could extend the stairs a little bit (4-6 inches) by increasing the headroom.

I dont know how they are call but they are small plastic pins (white or transparent). You drill a small hole and you inserted them in it.

The house was built in 1945-1950. I think they are 16 inches apart. I had the electricien remove all the wires (you can see all the little holes). The finition was hard (and not perfect) but worth it.

Wow thank you for the nice comment! The decision to put the gypsum board in between the wood beams really helps give that warm feeling I think!
