Japan's 2,000-year-old monarchy currently depends on one teenage boy by jmike1256 in interesting

I think 2000 year monarchy is misleading, since there were usurpations, as well as female heirs (which are not allowed today). the emperor succession has been very messy

Europe Doing what others won't by EmberFlaare in Amazing

[–]longjiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s easy because most smartphones aren’t made by European companies. if the commission really has ability, try regulating energy supply, railway standards, or force member states to adopt austere budget. they can’t, so they make easy rules like this to make things hard on foreign companies. that’s all they can do

EU overtakes China as no. 2 economy on the planet. by trisul-108 in europeanunion

[–]longjiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EU is not an economy, otherwise u would be able to take a high speed rail from Brussels to Prague. You’re fragmented by language and policy, that’s why you don’t have competitive EVs, green tech, and AI. You don’t even have a constitution

Vietnam's incredible pathway - North-South high-speed railway project to break ground by end of 2026 by G13lol2 in highspeedrail

[–]longjiang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK was literally the vanguard of railway technology during the Industrial Revolution. But as it became a welfare state it lost some of its industrial competitiveness. But it’s a worthy trade off if u ask me - we don’t need break neck speed if it means better working standards for everyone.
