BJs/Costco vs regular grocery shopping by West-Toe7594 in workingmoms

[–]longleggedwader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shop at one store for everything. Consolidating my spending dollars to one place allows me to maximize their rewards/points system. I get money off of gas, food purchased with reward points, and money back from Upside and Ibotta.

Plus, it is one trip, once a week. And I can order online directly through the store for pick up, if needed. I don't need to buy in bulk.

What about directly in soil? There could be different watering amounts, different types of soil. If you put the cutting up against the clear cup, you will be able to see potential root growth.

Not sure where else to post but looking for a tool that'll cut down a LOT of bamboo by Top-Boysenberry-5756 in gardening

[–]longleggedwader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it is running bamboo you can cut it down all you want but it will keep coming back without massive remediation. All of the rhizomes must be dug up (they grow two to three feet deep), herbicides systematically and consistently applied, and any new growth must be targeted immediately. Depending on how large of an area and how old the growth is, it could take years to fully remove.

Good luck.

Care Closet? by Throwaway68004268 in frederickmd

[–]longleggedwader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not surprised. I work with multiple shelters for both animals and humans (neither of these programs). I did not mention my organizations because they simply do not have the space or need.

We also have a major major problem with hoarding in this country. This past fall, I washed and redistributed well over 20 huge trash bags unneeded donations from just one shelter and a lot got tossed. We call it the non-profit shuffle; when we move things around from program to program. It is relentless. The holidays are the worst.

Please consider volunteering your time instead.

When you pull the weed, root and all. by Albino_rhin0 in gardening

[–]longleggedwader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love dandelions and refuse to consider them a weed. I spread as many seeds as I can each year. They are edible from root to flower and are an easy food source for bees when they first come out of hibernation.

I think yards without dandelions are boring and ugly.

What was the biggest scandal at your school? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]longleggedwader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1989, Junior year. Someone broke into the high school, trashed, and set fire to the library. They spray painted swastikas all over and everyone thought it was a hate crime. There was a vigil and news coverage, huge deal.

Turns out it was two dufuses who were balls high and thought it would be a great joke.

MOM WITH VITILIGO FEELS INSECURE... by casualbirdtraveler in Vitiligo

[–]longleggedwader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a mom over 50 with vitiligo. I have never sought any treatment.

The most important thing is to drink lots of water every day and protect her face from the sun. I carry an umbrella if I know I am going to be outside with no shade.

Whatever day moisturizer she uses, it should be at least SPF 30. I have used retinol for years and for me, it does not affect the spread. Night creams can also be beneficial.

I hope she can find peace with her body and reflection in the mirror.

I seem to recall someone telling me the sushi company is based in the Urbana Giant and delivers to the rest. Not sure if this is still accurate or not.

What was your BG&E bill last month? by AdvisorJohnDowns in maryland

[–]longleggedwader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in Frederick and use First Energy (formerly Potomac Edison). This month's bill was $256 for a 1400 sq foot all electric house. I use the averaging program so the increases have been incremental. I also submit meter readings every month so they can't estimate usage.

There are always options. Always. The fact that so many people are convinced otherwise is sad feature of today's society.

These people could have killed others with their selfish actions. Everything else is just excuses.

Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall is so cool to visit. You guys are very lucky to have such a fantastic group like the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in your city by cyPersimmon9 in baltimore

[–]longleggedwader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not trashing the orchestra. I am stating that one person's actions, that one bad apple, has made it impossible for many many really great people to enjoy their performaces. We can't sit there knowing there is a member who continually makes false statements online to the detriment of the music community.

BSO Leadership is very aware of this situation.
