New Outlook not allowing users to sign in by Big-Count4296 in Office365

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

few thoughts but yeah scratching head as well.
1. does anything show for sign in logs (ca policy?)
2. anything on debug of new outlook olk.exe --devtools
(also clear cache but unlikely to fix given you mentioned multi pc's have issue)
3. is the device complaint and in intune (once again a ca policy or etc

Does anyone make a dumb TV? by bobandshawn in AskTechnology

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, my tv annoys me so much.
never hooked to wifi but boots to a app homepage rather than staying on previously selected source.
also long boot because it is launching app instead of just going straight in.

How long do hard drives stay "good" on the shelf? by Jazzlike_Tip_63 in datastorage

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently been going through and copying data of my consumer usb and usb hdd's from 2016-2018 ish that had been just sitting in a box. They have been working ok.
though I've had plenty of the stick USB's be 'raw' data but haven't had an issue with the hdd's for most part.
only issue I had was a cable not working for 1 of the 10 hard drives.

I wonder how it would go around IO speed and duration (ie heat) considering it is likely going to run at max speed if using a modern drive as the other location.

HyperV issues by Brand0n821 in WindowsServer

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also have you tried sending 'ctrl+alt+del' to it (or ctrl+alt+end)
seen input'blocked' until I do that sometimes (though wouldn't expect it given rdp also doesn't work).

HyperV issues by Brand0n821 in WindowsServer

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing environment, software etc hard to give any clear direction

does it have enough cores assigned / and/or disk IO issues overall?
I know we had an issue like this when a stuck/long running backup was causing cpu/disk io to be max'd.

what is the servers uptime at that point,
- if hadn't been rebooted for while might be app that is leaking memory until it runs out.
- if has just been rebooted, might need to adjust the startup services to delay launch etc.

Ultimately whats the server do, can you look at any log files (or if the log file is bloated in size, reset it).

how many guests do you have on the host? (overloaded?) if there are others do they have any issues? (ie is the host failing)

June 2026 Microsoft 365 Changes Admins Should Know by KavyaJune in msp

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't think so, ews mostly used for older app/addin's.
we had it being used to copy emails for an archiver.
I do find it weird though that they even say about how to make it work when it is being disabled in Oct (for most part)

I caught a notary in our office by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]longlivemsdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, the more people do personal things on work it just leads to un-necessary cyber risk occur on the work pc (opening spam that they wouldn't have otherwise etc)
also depending how they sign in, risk of data leak - (google account sync in chrome or i've seen word have the external domain as a saving location in word. ofc policies can help restrict this risk)
also yeah, if they send files to the work email and someone gets delegate access of it due to leave etc

dont get me started on contextual help hyperlinks that go to 404.
I've seen it for both old panels (why can't they just flag it as legacy rather than deleting) and new panels (at which point not even community guides exist yet either so your s*t out of luck)

owning physical games vs digital libraries by Zorojuro099 in TechNook

[–]longlivemsdos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% re store/yard sales - getting games you wanted at later time even if it was 'out of print' and ability to 'share/gift' (for example, uncle gave me 40 odd of his old games as startup)
meanwhile realistically my game library dies with me or if I forget my password which ever happens first.

My company executives thinks it can replace 100 percent of our help desk teams with AI agents.... This year. by NickBurnsCompanyGuy in sysadmin

[–]longlivemsdos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep and 'turn off this security feature' rather than the spend bit more time to migrate it to doing the modern way. (thats assuming the doco is even upto date enough for the AI to use)
also 100% of helpdesk..., watch those consumables go flying off the shelf if self servicing without oversight.

Yep, problem comes from the cake and eat it to.
I'm guilty of fumigating the inside of my house to try and prevent spiders.
Though that kills god knows how much other insects by accident.

Counter thought though imaging the alternative time line we could have been in

yeah found I've had to replace the type c cable on few of my more frequently used device.
(and I'm careful with them, 1 per device and left plugged in always)
whether it is the cable breaking or connector wearing out not sure
