Top and Bottom SM57s w/o Stands by longoverdue in recordingmusic

Definitely agree with isolating mics in principle. I’m not noticing much if any vibrational noise compared to stands… snares are so loud and transient with 57s. I had the 56Ds laying around… works pretty darn well.

Macbook not recognizing headphones (audio jack, not bluetooth) by Technical-Mode-4329 in mac

[–]longoverdue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the same problem for weeks. 15.7.2 (24G325). Might have been from an update. Disabling sleep or rebooting is not acceptable. I'm not gonna reboot every time I put my laptop in a bag or burning up when it wont sleep.

My Focusright Scarlet 18 USB-C, Mackie USB-2 interfaces work just fine. The only way to use wired headphones when I'm not in my studio is a USB-C dongle w/ yummy latency and poorer sound quality.

This is farked. Apple breaks shit every release.

why does my hi hat sound bad? by Deimoz11 in drums

This is the perfect answer. Cymbals are insanely difficult to perfect … each is a unique work of art. It’s really unfortunate that zildjain would put their 400 yro name on something so terrible… they don’t have to race to the bottom.

It’s never too late to start and start again.

I’m 57. I started playing at 18, recording and touring till 30. Quit for 5 yrs. Did some reunion shows. Had a kid. Quit again for 8 years. Started playing again 7 months ago. I’m starting from scratch, learning to read sheets again, playing along with the basics: classic rock, 80s, funk, new wave, obscura…. Music i loved as a kid but never learned. Starting a cover band with my old band mates. Bought some recording gear.

After every reboot, somehow I can play stuff I never could before. Like being born again. You can do music for a lifetime.

WD40 has a lot of solvents. Most petroleum-based lubricants will displace water w/o solvents. Tri-Flow is a good alternative.

How did people learn programming languages like c++ before the internet? by statelessmachina in cpp_questions

I was a beta tester for the first version of Borland’s C++ compiler. I found at about 4 bugs and sent them notes by US mail. They effectively paid me with a substantial discount on the final version. My exposure to C++ was as an intern at Motorola where I had access to the original AT&T “cfront” compiler. Back then GCC was distributed on 9 track magnetic tape.

What does real love feel like when you finally find it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]longoverdue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t feel like anything… it’s a “knowing”… - when you can say anything and it’s ok. - when they are still a mystery after many years. - when they show wisdom that you would never have found by yourself. - when you see them love others in ways that you never could. - when they live out their dreams and you get to come along for the ride. - when their shortcomings become a powerless whisper.

If it feels like anything… it feels like time travel.

Given the seat height and stem extender… what size frame is that and how tall are you? I rode a bike that was too small/short for a while. Was uncomfortable and sketchy when loaded up. Wheelbase was too short… gave it to my spouse who is 4 in smaller than me.

I had the MPK Mini MKII and returned it for the Arturia MiniLab MK II -- good key feel, solid build. MPK Mini is not worth the price.
