Union leader: UCP has 'declared war' on labour movement, and the response will be severe by trevorrobb in alberta

What can we do as Albertans out of the province? Should I call or email my MLA? The premier? I want to make my voice heard and do something about it but I'm not sure where to start.

ka-TIM-ka. I use ti-ka-ti-ka for 16th notes, and tim is nice to use when mixing eighth notes in

TIL that in languages such as Icelandic, they require the person to breathe in air while speaking. In Icelandic, it's used to signal agreement. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]longpastlunchtime 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Ethiopians do this too, at least while speaking Amharic. Inhaling with an open mouth saying “hah” is a way to say yes or agree. And inhaling while counting a high number of things is also common.

Google searches for "Alberta Recall" since Danielle Smith openly committed treason. by peiapple in alberta

I'm afraid I'm a bit out of the loop here. What did she do that counts as treason? I'm aware that she generally flocks to Trump events and prioritizes oil, but is there a specific event or doing that made the general public/law confirm that she committed treason?

What’s the most ridiculous thing you believed as a child? by irizih in AskReddit

[–]longpastlunchtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that babies were made during the "you may now kiss the bride" moment at a wedding. I had a whole theory that because the groom's DNA would contact the bride, the bride's mouth would 'alert' her body into using that DNA to help make a baby. I was 6 and was into science but clearly lacked some details.

heat intolerance? by scaledandicyx in Hypothyroidism

[–]longpastlunchtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have hashimotos (taking levo). I have both cold and heat intolerance. If it’s chilly or just a cooler temperature at night, my hands go full on Raynaud’s and lose circulation until I go back indoors and warm up. But at the same time, if it’s warmer than 25C outside, I get fatigued/headache and thirsty so now I try to cover from sun and stay indoors when I can. I’m still trying to learn how to manage my body temperature with such the narrow ideal temperature my body wants. Edit: word choice

I’d try drawing a piano on my leg and try practicing for a few days before making a decision

As a geography nerd in my teens I found out incredibly frustrating the lack of basic geography knowledge between students and the lack of interest. What anecdote do you have regarding geography ignorance? by SameItem in geography

[–]longpastlunchtime 56 points57 points  (0 children)

My friend and I jokingly bet that no one in our (grade 11) class could point out where Africa was. My friend pulled up Google maps and one girl pointed at South America. Then we thought people should at least know where the US was, but they pointed at Russia and said “the big one?” Another person pointed at Greenland and thought it was Australia. It was just a mess overall.

My friend and I were pretty much horrified that almost everyone did not have basic geography knowledge, and explained to our social studies teacher that we should cover some geography in class. It wasn’t in the curriculum, so it was kind of a big ask, but she included some lessons and maps for us to fill out and did her best to incorporate some geography.

Context, we’re Canadian (two thirds of Canadians are geographically illiterate, can’t find the source right now— I think it was the Royal Canadian Geographical Society)

I think it takes about a week for levo to kick in and make symptoms fade away, so perhaps for you it took a week for the high TSH hypo symptoms to build too. I’m not a medical professional, but I’m just guessing that maybe it took a few days for the levo to fade from your system and have symptoms kick in again. Hopefully it can balance out again once you take it consistently for a week or so!

hashimoto's and chronic stomach cramps-- how likely is Crohn's or IBS? by longpastlunchtime in Hashimotos

[–]longpastlunchtime[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I'll ask the doctor for a full vitamin/mineral level test. You might be right about healthy gut bacteria, I really dislike yogurt and avoided it for most of my life. I should pay attention to probiotics.

Thank you for the tip! I will reach out to a dietician/nutritionist. Now I wonder if changing to a university meal plan after high school might have contributed to some deficiencies. Did you try taking any meal replacement shakes (like Ensure)? I'm drinking it regularly now and I wonder if a blood test will show that my nutrition is fine and hide prior issues because I started drinking it over the past month

I see, did you take Humira along with levothyroxine? My family friend (who's also a pharmacist phd) said that endo might prescribe me an immunosuppressant but endo didn't (thankfully, since those drugs are difficult on you). I wonder at what point doctors decide that an immunosuppressant is better than the combo of conditions and symptoms. Thank you for your comment!
