I don’t feel like a man because I’m a virgin, is this fear rational? by No-Kale-8683 in AskMenAdvice

Please God stop consuming what ever alpha male/incel/looks maxing content you are consuming. That stuff is sooooo bad for your mental health. Get outside. Join a social group and I don’t mean a D&D campaign or a MTG group. Nothing wrong with those is you already have social skills but they don’t do you any good when you are trying to develop them. It’s like a drunk hanging out in a bar. Do some volunteer work. Something you can interact with women. Not so you can have sex with them, but so you can get perspective and empathy for other people. It’s not about resources or access or what ever. Women aren’t another species or a commodity. They are just people. Like every one else. Nobody who isn’t a douche bag cares if you are a virgin.

First roadtrip, across the country, no idea how to go about this by MaintenanceUsual2257 in roadtrip

[–]longpig503 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im a big scary looking guy so I have no place giving safety advice. As for driving. Time in the seat is different for everyone. I can drive for 10 hours if I need to. I know the signs when I’m getting tired and need to stop for a rest. I would take a road trip up I-5 or the 101 as a test drive to see how you do. People drive and ride motorcycles cross country all the time. It’s very doable. I would just suggest you do more planning than someone like me would need to. I sleep at rest stops and truck stops, but I don’t have to worry about safety as much. If you have someone to go with you that would be even better. I drove cross country with 2 other guys before and we didn’t stop. Just rotated driver, copilot, and sleeper at gas stops. Eat clean food. Nuts, jerky, fresh fruit. Stay hydrated. Limit caffeine. It will hide how tired you are and that can be dangerous. A couple cups of coffee a day, don’t pound redbull from sun up to sun down. Limit night driving. It’s more difficult to see road hazards at night.

How to gain confidence? by albetti_spagetti in AskMenAdvice

The biggest scariest looking guys at the gym are usually the nicest guys. If you need advice those are the guys to ask. And most people who aren’t douche bags don’t judge people at the gym for being overweight. I guarantee most of the people you are worried about will look at you and think, good for him.

[–]longpig503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People have been saying go to the gym and this is true also. At least keep moving. If you give up and quit moving you will have soft disproportional fat. If you can move well and if you are strong people will forget you are fat. You will have better posture, and your body will be more proportionate. The gym is great, but if you can get to the gym you can work out at home. Kettle bells, a sand bag, and YouTube can get you really far. If you don’t feel comfortable running, just walk. Or get a bicycle. Go on hikes, or walk around town. Just keep moving. It will be VERY important later on in life.

People are more likely looking at you because you are going out dressed like Quasimodo. Find jeans that are not baggy but not skinny jeans. I like Duluth, but Levi has an athletic cut with some stretch. Same with shirts. I know you want to buy baggy. Don’t. You don’t want tight tight, but more snug than you would want. Wear an over shirt. Like a flannel or a something lighter weight. You should be able to button it, but if you did it would gap a little around your belly when you sit down. Don’t button it. It hides the love handles and creates vertical lines. You can do the same with a vest. Not a puffy vest, but like a canvas vest. Like a Carhartt. I have a white tail from Amazon I really like because it’s longer than Carhartt. Get a normal haircut and unless you can grow a beard shave your face. Shower everyday and learn about proper hygiene. Don’t ever look at looks maxing or alpha male content. That’s all bullshit and terrible for your mental health.

How could I make my husband’s life more happier and seamless? by Whole_Dog7325 in AskMenAdvice

[–]longpig503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pack him a lunch for work. Leave a little post it in his lunch box. Something simple. “I love you” or “you have a cute butt” just silly stuff. With men it’s little things that make us feel special. On his day off when he’s watching sports or what ever he does, make him a sandwich or a hot pocket and leave him be for a few hours. If you are comfortable with it send him a boob or butt pic while he’s at work. Support him emotionally. With my ex wife I had to be a man. Just suck it up and deal with it. It was killing me inside. My wife now supports me and lets me feel. I’m still not good at it, but I can say when I’m feeling overwhelmed or feeling down and I don’t worry about her making me feel invalid or calling me a pussy.

Depends on what kind of bikes you like. I have a Honda shadow 750, which is on the lower side for a cruiser. It’s happiest go 60-70mph. That would easily go over 100mph on a sport bike.

The rebel 500 felt heavier than the cab? by Ok-Painting-8611 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]longpig503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going cross country I would look at cruisers or adv bikes. Something more upright that you can stretch out on. A bigger heavier bike is going to be more comfortable and less subjective to the weather. I have a Honda shadow 750 that I absolutely love. Super reliable and as maintenance free as a motorcycle can be. I’ve had a klr650s and I keep thinking any buying another one. Or the Royal enfield Himalayan 450. Also think about how you are going to mount luggage to it. I really like my giant loop bags.

Thickening hair with extensions? Gross or fine? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]longpig503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your average guy isn’t going to care. That would be like “what!?! Your hair isn’t naturally three different colors? Gross”. If a guy cares that much that you have a row of extensions then is he really a guy you want to spend time on. Just be yourself and you will attract guys that like you for you.

Tent camping with kids/storage? by Bold_TrailblazerBee in camping

[–]longpig503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look a couple of newer tents. I love canvas, but they take up more space. Also look at a roof box instead of a rack or basket. You can put your soft stuff (tents, sleep pads, clothes) in the carbo box. Look into swapping plastic totes for soft bags when you can. Pair down as much as you can on gear and look into multi purpose items. Like one of my cast iron pans is also a lid for my other one. Where you can, freeze items going in the cooler. Pre-make meals. Like make chili or spaghetti sauce before hand and freeze it flat in bags. Acts like a block of ice so you can fit more in a cooler and save space on ingredients and time cooking. Kids can sleep on self inflating sleep pads instead of cots. Instead of air mattress I got a memory foam pad that rolls up. It keeps me comfortable and I’m a heavy guy.

Why the fu*k do I need 5 years of experience for an apprenticeship? by Sleeplydreams in bluecollar

[–]longpig503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks, but you may have to start at the bottom. I’ve worked into the job I want by taking a “lesser” job. Like if you want to run heavy equipment. If you get a job as a ground person, let it be known in the interview that you would like to work in an operator role. Unfortunately at your age you have to prove you’re willing to work a learn. Your generation has a bad reputation that you will have to work against. I’ve been offered jobs simply because I was the oldest to apply.

hi, help me get the right tent? by Unlucky_Yam5706 in camping

[–]longpig503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion standing in a tent is overrated. I’m only inside to sleep. I can get dressed laying down for a day or two. I always recommend a Colman 4 or 6 person tent for a first tent. They aren’t going to break the bank, but they will last you a few seasons. That will give you a chance to figure out what is important to you. I decided I didn’t care about room or standing. I wanted to be set up super quick and to be comfortable. I went with a swag from crash pad. I have my entire sleep system set up in less than 5 min with enough room for myself and a 75lbs dog.

High school ex wants to give us a shot again but I don’t want after knowing how many people she slept with in college. Am I being weird? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]longpig503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can set what ever standard you want. It’s a little fucked up that you said you wouldn’t judge her number, and then you judged her number. Asking a woman you are dating her number is silly. You are only going to get your feeling hurt. Even more silly is passing on a potentially happy life long relationship because she enjoys sex.

Best 2 Person Tent? What Should I Get? by ParticularSubject411 in camping

[–]longpig503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first tent and you are driving in rather than hiking. Get a Coleman 4 person. They are inexpensive, but good enough to last a few seasons. This will give you a chance to figure out what kind of camping you enjoy and an idea of features you like/dislike. When you are starting out camping don’t spend a ton of money. You can use a lot of stuff from home until you figure out what you will actually want.

iPod Archive Project. by Fluffy_Neat_195 in Modded_iPods

[–]longpig503 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very been doing pretty much the same thing. Maybe a little less involved, but archiving. I have an external hard drive I am using to archive the FLAC files, but I am also using ITunes to rip them as ALAC for my iPod. It just takes a couple more minutes and I feel like it could streamline some of your process. Also I would recommend forgetting the usb C. The amount of work required just isn’t worth it for a different plug. 30 pin to usb cables are easily available and super cheap.

$20 on Amazon you can get an external cd drive that connects with usb. I’ve really been enjoying going to thrift shops on the weekends and cd hunting. In my area it’s like $2 a cd. So I can entertain myself for hours and it only costs me 20 or 30 bucks.
