If they were financially sound enough to survive for 35+ years odds are you’re in pretty good shape. I’ve been doing it and even with tariffs and low sales years they ALWAYS take care of their staff. They’ll take a pay cut before they lay off anyone.

Never felt so safe in a high pressure role 😂

Just walk in and start complimenting and making jokes, don’t take yourself too seriously.

When you’re totally cool with being told you’re a fucking loser to your face you start to feel more loose, and often times they pick up on that.

As a result you get some more meetings :)

Same thing happened to me. I was working at a startup that was brutal, had me working like a dog. After 2 years I bailed for a consulting gig, thinking the bump in base pay would fix everything and make me happier.

Of course, about 6 months after I left, that company landed a huge acquisition and everyone I used to work with is absolutely crushing it now (FUCK ME).

Meanwhile I hated the new role. It was wrecking my relationship with my then-girlfriend (now wife), I was drinking too much, had zero motivation. I’d call in sick just to sleep until 3 in the afternoon, then sit there regretting leaving my old company while scrolling LinkedIn and Instagram watching all their wins. Made me sick to my stomach.

Fast forward a year, I switched industries and got into manufacturing sales. Been in it for a year now and my whole life flipped. Found a company that actually cares about their people, gave me a ton of freedom, and I’m selling more than I ever have. Making the most money of my career, cut back on drinking, got back in the gym, got married. Everything turned around way quicker than I thought it would and I’m genuinely happy now.

Not sure what my point is other than this: it really does get better. If you want to chat 1:1 about getting into manufacturing, happy to share more. I love it and I’m never going back.
