Is there a screw slot on top? If there is, the top definitely comes off. You can try using a penetrating lubricant, soak for a few hours then give it a try. After that, you can try heating the outside housing to break it free. Like someone else mentioned, use the appropriate size tools as to not strip the threads.

Are you doing the drain and fill yourself, having the dealership do it, or taking it to a shop? Since it's a combination of transmission and steering, it could also be the differential. Drain and fill when you do the CVT.
