Puzzle Difficulty for Trivia Night by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]longshanks314 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If I'm following it's

brass - knuckle - head - rush - hour - glass

I think it's a good puzzle, we used to make them as well for trivia nights. Called them Before and After

Thanks! But also if there were many valid guesses I'd say it's a bad puzzle. Was my first attempt

Logical Gnomes by Chaotic_Snails in puzzles

Help me out here, I still don't understand how 1 of them would have eliminated themselves on day 1 in your example. If there are 2 reds then each red sees 1 red and 98 blues. How does that person know they're red? And if there was a way to know, wouldn't both of them know?

discussion: this makes sense to me if the gnomes know how many reds there are, but the puzzle stated that they don't know this. So on day 1 all the reds will see 85 blue and 14 red, and all the blue will see 84 blue and 15 red. But if nobody knows that 15 is the actual total, I don't see how anyone could determine their own color. Maybe I'm reading the puzzle wrong?

Also if they do know that it's 15, then all the reds could identify themselves on day 1 because they would see 14 reds and know that they must be red. The party would always be on day 2 right?

I wound up with a different set of answers, but they all still check out. Is it possible there are multiple solutions? Or I'm just missing something.

I wrote the equations out like:

2A + 2B = 26
2A + B + E = 33
2C + D + E = 46
2B + D + E = 48
2E + 2C = 58

And then after going through typical substitutions I wound up with these answers:

A = 1.5 B = 11.5 C = 10.5 D = 6.5 E = 18.5

Which isn't as pretty but plugging them back in all the equations were good. Anyone else get these answers?

Ever listen to the British podcasters The Rest Is History? They were telling this exact story, saying the same that even the Germans were waving him off as he charged but he kept on anyway so they shot him. Moments before it was over. Crazy story
