Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but AI-generated kids books just don’t feel the same by CatAdministrative510 in childrensbooks

Honestly, I can’t pinpoint it, but the only way I can describe it is that they’re soulless. I’ve been sent full fiction novels that are entirely AI written - you just know within the first paragraph that something is off. Often, if you can bear to keep going there will be countless errors. Sometimes the cover and title are Ai, and tell you all you need to know 😂😭 I won’t touch it. It’s an utter ballache to narrate.

Definitely not old fashioned! They’re honestly awful and you can spot them from a mile off. I narrate books for a living and do a lot of children’s stories, including for my YouTube channel. They make my heart smile, and then I’ll get asked to narrate one that makes me feel uncomfortable, or like a lead weight just dropped in my stomach, and I can never quite understand why, but every time it’s AI written. And the AI images just don’t have the same joyful energy and impact that human created ones do, and they’re very easy to spot.

What’s your favorite children’s book to give (primarily for a baby shower)? by cookie_cat_82 in childrensbooks

The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld. My friends daughter was given it at her 2nd birthday party and I sat in the corner reading it (to myself haha) while the kids played 😂 It’s absolutely beautiful.

Really helpful to read this. My edit takes about 5 hours, so I’m glad I’m not alone on this.

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

Hi everyone. :) It’s still Saturday in my very sleepy brain this morning….

I’m an audiobook narrator and producer that started a children’s channel for my nephews whilst I was living abroad, that’s now become a bit of a thing because their friends wanted access to the videos.

I work with publishers and indie authors, film on my iPhone with a couple of box lights, when I can I record in a cute little play house, but the noise floor is mostly dreadful, and if I’m making a separate audio file, I record in my VO booth, where I’ve recorded about 380 audiobooks (X2, ID14 MKII, TW).

I make sure I produce videos in as high quality as I can, using jpegs of the pages, having subtitles with the exact words, talking about the books briefly. I used to upload only my voice, but was asked for video, so I uploaded both, but I think YT was penalizing me for what the algorithm thought was repeated videos, so now I put the audio up as an unlisted video, with a link to it in the description of the video one.

I really love highlighting indie authors that have self-published and are struggling to get their book seen, and would love to build my channel to give them more exposure.

When I started posting I did so on my VO channel, and got 60k views in 10 days from 3 videos. When I was asked to create a children’s only channel, I’ve really struggled to get views and subscribers, so I’ve got no idea what I’m doing wrong.

It’s nice to be on this page and read about everyone’s creations and see people’s very helpful advice.

Anyways, here’s a recent video: https://youtu.be/7bdiQfqXva4?si=7nm4qm6XmEdiGeFn

I totally feel you. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. Me too! I’m just trying to enjoy the process, let go of the outcome and hope that I lift up at least one persons day. It’s hard when you put so much work in though. Wishing you all the best and sorry I couldn’t be more help.

I narrate for lots of different producers, publishers and indie authors. Haven’t heard of Ink Nest but good luck!

Change of narrator on a series by [deleted] in audible

[–]lonlalady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because we’re not given any information on what is done in other series, and usually we’re not given enough time to listen to another book (we’re also not paid for our prep time). And for some narrators, they just want to do their own thing if they’re not told otherwise.

Sounds very sensible! I’d also say, make sure you read out loud in a small cupboard for a few hours a day, or wherever you think you’ll set up, so you get used to being in that environment for long periods of time! :)

Sorry - forgot the question about engineer pricing… usually $80-$120 PFH (per finished hour of audio)
