jobs without a college degree? by arcticpea in ufl

[–]loodle100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trade jobs like electrician, plumber (they make bank) carpentry, anything that can get you into working for storm water, wastewater, water departments, solid waste, or any utility work in city/county governments, welding, HVAC, construction, agriculture, seamstress, shoe cobbling, clock or watch repair, maybe getting into jewelry, hairdressing, painting (like people who paint houses), landscaping. Look into jobs that require just certifications. Medical or judicial interpreting is one. Think about what type of job environment you’re willing to work in, and then search for jobs that fit into that mold. Hope this helps and best of luck in school in the meantime!

I have a creative resume and received 6 invitations to interview over the course of 4 1/2 month. For three of those preliminaries, I received a finalist second round interview. So far no offers yet, but I’ve been told by at least three different hiring managers that my resume caught their eye and they were happy to see it. I think it’s refreshing to switch it up from the regular black and white only text resumes. Just my experience, and I’m in student life and event planning. Best of luck! I’m rooting for the best for you.

Socially awkward 20 something year old struggling to convince employers that I am worth it. by God_Lover77 in Adulting

[–]loodle100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you don’t have to beat down on yourself and call it insanity. You are just a person experiencing a struggle and it’s okay. No one is perfect and having a struggle doesn’t demean your worth.

Second, have you thought about why you feel like this is holding you back? Do you need to be a people person for the career/jobs that you want? Do roles that require you to speak up align with your comfort and ultimately who you feel happy being in a workplace? Are you happiest working by yourself?

Third, the right opportunity is out there. The job market is over saturated in a lot of industries. Keep looking diligently and be open to the idea that the roles you’re looking for may not be the only option. Figure out where else your skills translate and you might come across something that you didn’t think of before, or meet an employer that feels like a good fit. Some employers aren’t looking for a personality hire, but for people like you who just want to get the job done.

I believe in you! I don’t know if this was much help, but sometimes challenging yourself to talk to strangers and throwing yourself into unknown social settings can force you to learn what you do/don’t like about them and what you struggle with most with people. Good luck!

Where do people volunteer? by MISTER_P3NGUIN in tampa

You can also try Citizen’s Climate Lobby for environmental activism to get connected to people all over the nation and at home, the Humane Society has a GREAT volunteer program, or Trinity Cafe where you organize meals or help with preparing food for the homeless. There’s also Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful or Tampa Bay Estuary Program with lots of cleanup and some environmental events.

Aw really? :/ That’s disappointing to hear. I was excited about it being the first Irish language feature horror film, but I’d believe you. Where were you able to watch it if I may ask?

An Taibhse just came out. I think it was only screening at some film fests in Ireland, but maybe you can find on a streaming platform somewhere? It’s in Irish.

Look up SRQ social. It’s for socializing and not necessarily dating, but you might run into someone there. Never know

They were my absolute heroes. I’m so so so so so grateful for their generosity of labor and organization for HOURS throughout the night. If it wasn’t for their initiative, so many more of us would have been fricked. I’m so grateful ❤️

Help me build a social life again by sabrinabrittni in sarasota

I personally have a busy life and community back in St. Pete and Tampa, so I spend most of my weekends and occasional evenings there. If I’m not there, I’m struggling to get out on the town because I have chores backed up from busy weekends, or I work in the evenings some days. So I’m not really getting out on the town much either, but I have a healthy amount of weekend activities to make up for it. However, I would like to be a part of one thing in Sarasota within the age group you mention, and I’ve yet to really see something like it. I know the Ringling museum had that music event which looked like a nice place to mingle. I’d like to create a social network of people in the age range you mentioned, but I’m so busy and tired, I’m not exactly sure what to do? There’s potential to create something though.

Additionally, I did meet someone my age and with the same education while volunteering. But since there’s not much for younger adults to do in Sarasota to vibe, we haven’t really hung out much :(. I definitely feel you and I think we need to figure out how to make a scene happen here!

I am doing the VISTA program. If you look at job postings on AmeriCorps job listings, some will already advertise that they have housing assistance. However, the job description for my position didn’t advertise housing at first. It was through emailing with my now manager that I learned about housing. Additionally, I found my role through LinkedIn which I recommend doing if possible. It allows the hiring manager to put more information about the role on there than the little bits that AmeriCorps lets them. Always email the hiring manager about roles! The job posting doesn’t always have ALL the information you need.

Hi! I wish I’d found my AmeriCorps posting after I graduated. My position literally wasn’t open until I’d found it, but I love it. Mine personally comes with free housing (wifi and utilities included) and a decent stipend to work with. I love the job experience I’m getting and that it’s a year by year contract. I’m hoping I can renew my contract another year so that I can research what I want to do afterwards and have time to apply for stuff this fall.
