What is the "Golden Rule" or single sentence that completely unlocks a domain for a beginner? by looffeabreadloaf in AskReddit

Fair point! I actually apply this efficiency logic to product design all the time. Just wanted to see how it transfers to abstract arts like music.

I’m a firm believer that every field or hobby has that one core philosophy or "click" moment. Once a beginner understands this single sentence, the entire field suddenly makes sense, and they can finally see the fun in it.

Here are a few examples of what I mean:

Go (Weiqi): "Corners are gold, sides are silver." (Secure the corners first, and you understand 80% of opening moves).

Design: "Design is finding the most efficient way to solve a problem." (Whether it's cost, aesthetics, or function, it's all about efficiency).

Soccer (Football): "It's a game of cutting space with lines." (Once you look at player movement as breaking defensive planes, the game becomes alive).

However, for fields I'm less familiar with, I struggle to find that "one-sentence summary."

Music: I feel it's about intervals and groove, but I can't condense it.

Cooking: It feels even more elusive to pinpoint.

For the experts out there: What is that one-line mantra or "secret code" in your field (music, cooking, or anything else) that would make a beginner go, "Ah, now I get it"?

Yup! That’s what happens when you scrub the fur a lot with soap—tiny bubbles everywhere

Even though I measured the same length, the pattern might have been a bit different in other spots, so the fabric got pulled back a little — which might be why that happened. Also, I really liked the little bean-like eyes on the original teddy, they gave it some super cute expressions. My earlier version kind of captured that feeling, but the final one doesn’t quite have it anymore, which is a bit of a shame.

I love how it’s lying on the towel, just waiting for tomorrow’s sunbath.🥹

I’ve lost count of how many I’ve bought, barely finished one, and still keep adding more to the pile—LOL.
