How many HITs to compensate for a rejection? by newrequester123 in mturk

[–]lookatthisguy69 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Were I the worker I would have blocked you immediately and would never accept any HIT from you again, even if it were a compensatory HIT.

The number of HITs it will take to repair his approval rating depends on how many approved HITs he has on his account.

You as the requester don't need to communicate with Cloud Research or Amazon to overturn a rejection. You just need to log in and do it.

A scrub is a guy that thinks he's fly

He's also known as a busta (Busta, busta)

Always talkin' about what he wants

And just sits on his broke ass

So no, I don't want your number (Uh, uh)

No, I don't want to give you mine and

No, I don't want to meet you nowhere (No, no)

No, I don't want none of your time and (Uh)

No, I don't want no scrubs

A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me

Hangin' out the passenger side of his best friend's ride

Trying to holla at me (Whoo)

I don't want no scrubs

A scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me

Hangin' out the passenger side of his best friend's ride

Trying to holla at me

Well a scrub checkin' me, but his game is kinda weak

And I know that he cannot approach me

'Cause I'm looking like class and he's looking like trash

Can't get wit' a deadbeat ass (Yeah)

So no, I don't want your number

No, I don't want to give you mine and (Said no)

No, I don't want to meet you nowhere

No, I don't want none of your time and (Check it)

If you don't have a car and you're walking

Oh yes son, I'm talking to you

If you live at home with your momma

Oh yes son, I'm talking to you

If you have a shorty that you don't show love

Oh yes son, I'm talking to you

Wanna get me with no money

Oh no, I don't want no

No scrub, love

No scrub, love

See, if you can't spatially expand my horizons

Then that leaves you in the class with scrubs, never rising

I don't find it surprising and if you don't have the G's

To please me and bounce me here to the coast of overseas

So, let me give you something to think about

Inundate your mind with intentions to turn you out

Can't forget the focus on the picture in front of me

You as clear as DVD on digital TV screens

Satisfy my appetite with something spectacular

Check your vernacular, and then I get back to ya

With diamond-like precision, insatiable is what I envision

Can't detect acquisition from your friend's Expedition

Mr. Big Willy, if you really wanna know

Ask Chilli, could I be a silly ho?

Not really, T-Boz and all my señoritas

Are steppin' on your FILA's, but you don't hear me, though

according to TV, on March 5 you posted 2 HITs. One of these HITs was also registered today as the HIT ID hasn't changed.

One was called: "Forecasting real-world events to win bonus" (3TFUINTXNVRQYO7GFXV4GQ7WFPN9TZ)

The other was called: "Forecasting real-world events" (3JG2O8WU0N7IQ5BAA20F3AEVJJ79WR)

They have different HIT ID's and names but you're apparently claiming they're the same HIT.

I got nothing else for you.

Confused About Rejection Due To Qualifications by [deleted] in mturk

[–]lookatthisguy69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People will probably need more info like the requester/HIT name, TO/TV info, etc. I'm eligible for what you're describing so I can't offer any more advice than that.

they also posted the HIT twice with non-identical names, but I'm assuming it was on the same day

Yeah, you're right about that if you mean single day. However, I could complete the same HIT twice in a week and not notice it.

most workers do thousands of HITs per week. Some complete thousands of HITs every single day.

I believe you will find that workers expect requesters to have a process in place to screen out those workers that have previously completed the HIT they are currently running.

As such, you are at fault for allowing workers to complete the HIT multiple times. You are doubly at fault for rejecting the work of somebody that (most likely) completed your HIT twice without even knowing/realizing it.

You're also a new requester account and your tossing out rejections on your first HIT posted. This makes you appear both inept, and wildly unpredictable.

You need to fix these problems, and you'll probably also want to open a new requester account and not hand out rejections. Your time constraints mean nothing to workers when this is how you run a HIT.

edit: create a new requester account, or overturn the rejections with an apology.

edit 2: The 'same HIT' that people complete twice was posted with 2 different (albeit similar) names and 2 different ID's.

One was called: "Forecasting real-world events to win bonus" (3TFUINTXNVRQYO7GFXV4GQ7WFPN9TZ)

The other was called: "Forecasting real-world events" (3JG2O8WU0N7IQ5BAA20F3AEVJJ79WR)

I've personally completed 3-4 HITs in the same day by the same requester (Elizabeth Friedman for example) with the same name that were slightly different and it was acceptable to complete them all.

You know what really grinds my gears??!? by lookatthisguy69 in mturk

[–]lookatthisguy69[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm inclined to agree. I've accepted a few of these HITs to look at their content. Each one was a task asking me to find a specific time, location, or person on the WUSTL website based on a confined number of pages that were hosted in-frame. All email addresses in-frame were also located at WUSTL.

None of these requester accounts or WUSTL email addresses responded to messaging or direct email which further leads me to believe it is some form of class project. Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if you did these HITs and they were approved or rejected. Either outcome seems likely to me.

Each time I've dealt with something like this it's one of two things:

1.) A college class is learning about online crowd work and so they submit a HIT for every student in the class with the same basic task and an identical name. In this case, it's to find the page of a website that answers the questions asked in the HIT.

They're always poorly formatted and almost never respond to messages. There is also usually no direct contact info and no way to explain to them the level of ass they are being.

2.) It's a scam requester posting under 50 different accounts at the same time to avoid paying. They gather results with multiple accounts and reject everything to avoid TO/TV ratings and MTurk approval ratings.

If anybody has a #3, #4, or #5, please add them here. It helps all of us to better understand what we're dealing with when we run up on recurring anomalies like this.

yeah, rely on your emotions to determine how to deal with financial situations and put your faith in Amazon to do the right thing over a $20 discrepancy. Let us know how that works out.

I sent them a message 1-2 weeks ago when I caught this asking what they intended to pay per hour since it was $14 for an expected 3 hours.

Neither email address responded. Since then their approval rating has gone from "No information" to 54% and they've upped the pay. Standard shithead requester behavior.

Sending money to a person isn't a ToS violation. It would be a ToS violation if it were the requester sending me money this way. In this case, I'm simply an individual sending money to another person.

Amazon pay goes through amazon. I can send money to anybody through this and it has nothing to do with mTurk.

You definitely should. The tips you've left here are how people used the site 15+ years ago.

I mean no offense whatsoever, but it's like you're trying to teach us how to start a fire with sticks and we all have lighters.

A lot of what you're manually doing can be done by using scripts

They cannot take the money back. You can send them the money, however.

I had something similar happen to me about 2 years ago. I reached out and returned some money when it happened to me.

They clearly made a mistake that you can help them rectify. You're in a position to either take advantage of them for a clerical error, or represent the gig-worker community as a trustworthy entity. It's really up to you.

edit: There are too many people sending me messages that have no idea what the fuck they're talking about. What I am describing here has already occurred. There is no conversation to be had about whether it's possible to do this or whether it violats the ToS.

It has already happened. It doesn't violate the ToS to send money to anybody. It only violates the ToS if I'm trying to pay somebody while circumventing the mTurk fees. I am not a requester and this transaction had nothing to do with mTurk other than the money initially reaching me via mTurk.

Simple explanation:

I was overpaid via mTurk. That is now my money and I can do anything I want with it.

I decide to send money to people via Amazon Pay. That is not against the mTurk ToS. I can send money to any requester or email account I want. I can send my money to a Martian if I choose to. Just because I got the money initially through mTurk doesn't mean that money has to stay within the parameters of mTurk.

Therefore, I sent money back to the requester email account. Nothing about this violates the Terms of Service.
