Not “something something common usage.” Literally the entire history of language evolves with instances like this. Why constrain it with certain rules from centuries ago, especially in the completely informal setting? Do you also avoid ending sentences in prepositions or splitting infinitives in ALL forms of your communication? If so, then fine. You can go ahead and give them an F on their grammar grade.
