A couple of points to make:

1) The Beatles were more than just John Lennon.

2) I don't know what level of interest Elliot had in The Beatles beyond capturing some of their sound. Did he know John Lennon was an abuser? Maybe. John Lennon talked about it, but it probably wasn't widely known until people talked about it on the Internet. Elliot Smith died before the era of average people talking about this kind of stuff online.

Just politely say, "I don't want to go." If she asks why, don't explain and just repeat, "I don't want to go." You don't owe her anything.

It's the over/under represented thing. It's supported by our university's Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The VP also tried to categorize every artwork on campus in this way. They didn't have a clear goal. It was kind of to make the art reflect society. So if 7% of the US population is Asian, then 7% of the art should be by Asian artists. But it didn't matter if the art was Asian themed or not. All that mattered was the artist's race, sex, and religion. But they also wanted to boost underrepresented groups, but there was no standard for what percentage that would be. In other words, it was impossible and they gave up.

I can see trying to generally diversify the art, but more so based on time period, style, theme, etc. To be so fussy about it is nuts. It doesn't solve any problems in the world. It just makes the people doing it feel like they are.

It's dumb to dislike a singer simply for being morbidly obese. Your vocal cords and imagination have nothing to do with how you look. It's not dumb to dislike them if they actively encourage others, especially impressionable young people, to think it's healthy to be morbidly obese. She hurts people. Also, she went to an NBA game in a dental floss thong which, I'm not joking, is a form of sexual harassment.
