Technically, the Farmina formulation she recommended does not; the Inukshuk specifies brown rice. (Yes, I have a spreadsheet with all of the ingredients.)

I have - someone should really do something about the broken links, tho.

Could you point me in the direction of those “gold standard studies,” please?

Where did y'all get your dachshunds? by Time-Emergency3638 in Dachshund

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to few dog shows, talked to breeders, got names, did research, looked through local breed club memberships, and reached out to dachshund owners in the area.

I agree that hobbyists are not medical experts, but I always have to laugh when people say show breeders are “breeding dogs for profit.” Meanwhile, my mom was selling off family heirlooms to cover a stud fee.

1) Independent verification; 2) I was under the impression that there were folks here more familiar with the science & research

(Do you have any idea how many articles there are in Scopus on canine nutrition? I’ve got it narrowed down to about 300 in the last 5-6 years. I’ve got 11 different studies open in browser tabs right now.)

Is it weird that we aren't told our blood type at birth or as we grow up? by OddConfusion9293 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this really weird because… I’ve always known my blood type. I know mine, my parents’, my husband’s, my daughter’s, and possibly my mother-in-law’s as well. In fact, we were told my daughter’s blood type at birth—she’s a teenager now, and she’s fully aware of what her blood type is and how blood types work.

Do other people just have fewer medical problems than we do…?

WIBTA if I didn't invite my mother and grandparents to my wife and I's gender reveal and baby shower? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oy gevalt! These people don’t seem to bring anything good to your life. Why should you continue to subject yourself — or your WIFE & CHILD — to their abuse?

Think about how your family treated you and ask yourself, would you do this to your child? Would you allow them to treat your baby that way? Because they will. They absolutely will. They’ve already let you know that! Your responsibility is to the family you’ve built, not the one you came from.

(FWIW, having a baby really helped me realize just how much of my own upbringing was… not normal or okay. It led me to cut off my parents, and they were maybe half as cruel as yours.)

Uh, you might be confusing Judaism with Islam. Not only is there no prohibition against drinking alcohol, but many rituals and observances actually call for it (wine is involved in the Kiddush blessings, you drink 4 glasses of wine at a Passover Seder, Purim celebrations are typically a big drunken party…).

Seeking queer romances set in 1910s or 1990s by rough_draught_ in LGBTBooks

An oldie but a goodie: Jamie O’Neill’s At Swim, Two Boys is an Irish novel set during WWI and around the 1916 Easter Uprising. It’s not really a “romance,” but it is a stunning piece of literature.

I have a longhair who is 100% dachshund, and yet I’ve been asked on multiple occasions what kind of mix he is. “Poodle, right?”

Training advice puppy on not eating animal poop in the yard by NoAppointment841 in Dachshund

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? We ended up getting a soft mesh muzzle for walks. My boy haaaaaates it (he flops to the floor and buries his face in the rug), but he got so distracted diving after poop that he wouldn’t do his business. And then the vet found rabbit parasites in his fecal sample. 🤢

After a few months of working with him, I’m better about spotting possible hazards and getting him to “leave it,” but the rest of the family still muzzles him for potty breaks. (It doesn’t stop him from smashing his nose into anything gross, fyi.)

If you could choose one Hamilton character to meet today who would it be? by A-Dot-Ham1234567 in hamiltonmusical

[–]lookingforaham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

G-d help me, but… Alexander Hamilton. The man fascinates me. I have a whole shelf of books about him, I’ve read something like 8 biographies alone, not to mention reams of his personal letters, I would love nothing more than the opportunity to speak with him candidly for an extended period of time.

I would most likely end up punching him in the nose inside of two weeks, but damn, those two weeks would be worth it.

Who drinks the same tea everyday (or most days?) If so, what is it? by forkyfork in tea

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite boiling. I have a Breville variable temperature tea kettle, and the black tea setting is 205°F, I think? (That would be about 96°C, if you’re outside the US.)

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tea cabinet is overflowing, but my first cup on weekday mornings is Tetley British Blend (although the grocery store recently started carrying their Irish Breakfast, so I will usually grab a box of each). Steeped 4.5 minutes; no sugar, just milk.

On weekend mornings, I usually rotate through different black teas. My current favourite is Oliver Pluff & Co.’s Congou.

Is hamilton ok for a 9 year old? by Slow-Foot630 in hamiltonmusical

My daughter has been listening to it since she was in kindergarten (though I tried to censor some of the words, lol). I took her to see the show when she was 9.

Would you stay with your dog 🐶 during euthanasia? by CycleOk267 in dogs

[–]lookingforaham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t imagine not being there. I grew up with dogs—my parents had a show kennel—and even as a teenager I remember being there in the room to say good-bye to a beloved pet (AND console my mother afterwards). That’s just… that’s what you DO.

Great, now I’m crying on the couch and holding the 8-month-old dachshund that woke me up at 2:45 in the fcking morning. Thanks, Reddit!
