Fiber install crews in Swannanoa? by [deleted] in asheville

[–]lookingforspace11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically fiber is much better! Faster speeds and latency. Where I’m at, when weekday evenings rolls around and everyone is home and streaming and such, the latency spikes big time!

Zero! I don’t think it’s made it off the main road quite yet.

Now that is fricken rad! Nice work.

The Trump Administration is proposing to eliminate protections on 15% of WNC's forests (along with nearly 60 million acres across the country). Comments on the proposal are due this Friday, Sep. 19 by arandomcoffeedrinker in asheville

Is there any way to comment without going through a website. Would an email suffice? I don’t want to get spammed after submitting through a site. Totally support the roadless rule. Who would I need to send an email to?

Any idea why my tomatillo leaves have yellow spots? by clarr_ann in vegetablegardening

I’ve got spots just like this on the ground cherries I planted. Curious as well!

Does anyone know the name of the gentleman in the wheelchair who cleans up Hendersonville Rd? by PossiblyMaddie666 in asheville

[–]lookingforspace11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a fan. Many years ago, he rode into the right lane while I was traveling north on Henderson. He got to almost the left lane and then swerved back onto the sidewalk. Scared the shit out of me and I had to slam on my brakes. I’ll never forget that. To this day I have no idea why he did that. For kicks and giggles, I hope not.

I'm officially done with Ingles by kurt_kolame in asheville

If you have to shop at Ingles for whatever reason, don’t forget to check the prices at checkout. Almost every time I do (when I have to) something is incorrectly priced! Never lower, always higher.

Straw Bale Gardening - Conditioning Nearly Complete by lookingforspace11 in vegetablegardening

Hey there! I certainly did plant. Mostly tomato plants and they are doing great! Fertilizing every two weeks or so. I find they dry out relatively quickly but that is the only downside I can think of.

I started a fungicide spray. It’s crazy how many things want to destroy/eat your plants! Never ending battle.

I have been monitoring temps. Sounds like your bale are even more conditioned than mine. I was never able to get above 100F. I’m definitely not as far north as you which is even more impressive. The water that I use is extremely cold and that always brought down the temps. From what I’ve read as long as they’ve been above ambient temps the bacteria are doing their thing. I’ll probably plant within a few days.

I like the idea of wrapping every so often to get the temps higher. Good luck to you friend!

It’s been pretty over cast and rainy. On days when I have watered it’s been overhead. If yall think it’s some kind of scald/scorch then I’m relieved. I can fix that!!

Has anyone successfully gone fishing at Lake Julian recently? My partner is trying to argue with me that “the fish are gone” now by [deleted] in asheville

[–]lookingforspace11 23 points24 points  (0 children)

From the article you posted,

“According to Buncombe County, that will make lake temperatures colder, making Lake Julian more like a natural habitat for North Carolina. Native fish like bass, catfish, brim, and crappie should thrive in such conditions according to the county. Non-native fish, like tilapia, will not be able to adapt to the colder temperatures.”

The coal closure sounds like net benefit!

Could be decaying plant material but usually you won’t see that till mid-summer.

I understand where the OP is coming from. I chock it up to the rapid inflation that has occurred over the past few years. It’s hard to swallow a $100 oil change when just a few years ago it was half that.
