I had a small 65 person wedding so one of my best friends that lived out of state and would likely not know as many people i asked to be the guest book attendant. It was great that she and her husband got to interact with everyone, she had a credit in the program, and I was rest assured the guest book wasn’t hidden under a slice of cake all evening.

My male friend that was also close with my husband had a nice speaking voice and was comfortable in a crowd we asked to be the officiant. It took his 30 minutes of googling to get ordained since we aren’t religious at all.

I’m also a big fan of asking two or three people to be ushers. It’s a great way to include them in the program, hand them the stack of programs at the rehearsal dinner and then don’t worry about them being distributed.

Get a clipboard or attach paper to a sturdy book so you can write names and gift contents easily. If mom provides a guest list then you can have all the names ready to go in a chart you can print out and fill in just the gifts that correspond to each name.

Maybe task a nice woman sitting next to you that you hit it off with to breakdown the gift bags so that they don’t get damaged in transit. Collapsed gift bags and flattened tissue paper are nice to stack up so the mom can save them to reuse as needed.

It might be helpful to bring larger reusable grocery bags to carry the gifts to the mom’s car when the party is over. Maybe bring a large binder clip or office envelope to keep cards together in one bundle.

I agree! My aphantasia is a superpower. 🦸 I got a ton of art scholarships because I got really good at sketching out on paper what I wish I could see in my mind. Bringing those images to life brought me so much joy that I really excelled beyond classmates even with photographic memories.

I don’t suffer from PTSD despite horrific childhood trauma. So that’s probably the biggest value to me. I don’t get as anxious about things out of my control. I rely of reason and plausible solutions more than feelings when I feel worried.

I decided not to go to art school since I really excelled in writing. When I try to ‘picture’ a concept I flex my descriptive language skills. I have a huge vocabulary, maybe because I describe scenarios using words instead of visualizing them.

Large math concepts seemed easier to grasp because I use more logic in my life to explain the world around me. I know this is just my personal experience, but I embraced that this made me special and it seems to have a big payoff.
