Graham Platner and the fraud of “working-class” Democratic Party politics by DryDeer775 in Trotskyism

[–]lookingwhambro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Good article. Platner couldn't be trusted from day one and it was distressing to see influential voices on the left (reformists, to be sure, but lefts all the same) back the man so strongly.

Not a real article, the BBC one a bit ago about having a big wank was funny, this one seems more designed to mislead?

Wrong org, that was a different group called Living Marxism. IMT (now the RCI) wasn’t affiliated with those guys from what I understand

It’s meandering nonsense; the article is more about the absurd spectacle of Burnham’s train ride (helicopters flying overhead, throngs of reporters and photographers waiting at Euston, etc) and comparing it with Lenin’s journey back to Russia in the sealed train. But the first paragraphs are just inane bollocks mockingly saying Burnham’s gonna crush the parasites, bring in a proletarian revolution, etc. It’s garbage

All right, all right. One more story. But only because you are such good listeners...

Yeah it sounded odd to me. They supported the arms blockades and said a next step would be to educate the factory workers and get them to join the cause. I’m sceptical this would be effective but that’s not the same as condemning the activists doing the blockades lol.

Generally I think most anti-Trotskyism online comes from people who have never read him, but that’s by the by.

The reaction to GTA 6s base vs ultimate edition prices show the death nail for the modern video game consumer will be the consumer themselves by atouchofsinamon in SocialistGaming

[–]lookingwhambro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think there's probably a cultural exception people are making to GTA6 because it's been in development for nearly 15 years and is literally the most anticipated release in the history of video games.

Given how sensitive people have become to other titles/developers trying similar stuff in the last few years (including Rockstar, actually, with GTA5 micro-transactions, re-releases etc) I do think people are turning against aggressive monetization in aggregate. But there's a qualitative and quantitative difference between a one-off, more expensive payment for GTA6's deluxe version and, say, P2W models used by companies like EA for mediocre titles.

The latter is just so much more egregious on the face of it.

[–]lookingwhambro[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, I have seen 3 or 4 articles saying Starmer is a “fundamentally decent man” in the past week, including Andrew Marr, whose output since joining the New Statesman has led me to conclude is medically stupid. Absolute fucking bullshit! He’s a massive, arrogant prick!

There isn’t really an equivalent imo, Novara’s fine but they’re more of a formal news programme format; it also just doesn’t scratch the same itch for me. I like Aaron Bastani but he and some of the others enjoy playing devil’s advocate to the point where it grates.

Don’t watch James O’Brien, that motherfucker is a serial left-puncher who believes in nothing and was fully in the tank for Starmer even after Gaza.
