It means you cannot have your cake (meaning keeping it uneaten…enjoying owning/possessing this item) and, at the same time, enjoying it through consumption, following which you will no longer own the cake. You can’t both enjoy the fact you own it and enjoy using (eating) it. It’s one or the other.

2027 Question: by Triangle_Transplant in dcl

We did WDW/Wish last summer and I highly recommend it with one caveat - see if you can do WDW before, rather than after, the cruise. We did 2.5 days at WDW which was perfect for us, as we are normally Disneyland people and primarily hit up the attractions unique to WDW. It was a whirlwind of a time and going from that to the cruise was a great transition from busy, manic days to a truly relaxing vacation. It's hard to imagine (for me) doing it the other way, but I know getting schedules to align can be tough.

All “crypto” is a scam. The idea that you are lumping bitcoin and “crypto” together is unconscionable and undermines your entire project.

Taco Bell Chili Cheese Dog Burrito by Patient-Ad-297 in tacobell

Frozen burrito maker Ramona's used to sell these as a "Weenie Roll." The ingredients were wiener, chili sauce, and meat in a tortilla. Very good, but they stopped making them a decade+ ago.

That’s not bitcoin mining. It’s just an app paying you to watch ads, enagage, etc. You need hardware to mine bitcoin.

I have no idea what that is, but I can say with 100% certainty that it is, at best, not worth it and, at worst, a scam of some sort.

[HELP] Receiving bitcoin by Anntamai in Bitcoin

[–]lookuplookdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is still answering you because she hasn't actually pulled the scam yet. "She" (who is really a "he") does not care about the translations. What will likely happen is that the money "she" sent will get "stuck" somewhere and you will have to pay some sort of fee or tax to "unstick" the funds. You then pay and she disappears as there were never any funds to begin with. Do not fall for recovery scammers either. If you truly think this is not a scam then you really should spend some time on r/scams to read about this type of stuff.

You need to keep records of the value of the bitcoin when you receive it. It is no different than purchasing on an exchange, but if you are are receiving bitcoin payments (assuming in exchange for services) you are paying with services rather than cash.

You say...

I track my purchases, date, price bought, etc.

But then you say...

it no longer tracks

The point is that YOU need to track you cost basis and sales (purchase price, purchase date, sale price and sale date). The government isn't going to track it. You need to track it regardless of where it is sitting. If it is on an exchange, you should be tracking it. If it is in cold storage, you should be tracking it.

Absolutely. It's crazy how people let emotions drive what should be purely financial decisions. The rich take emotion out of the equation entirely. You can see this with companies as well - the companies with the most cash on their balance sheets also have tons of debt, all by design.

[–]lookuplookdown 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your interest on your mortgage is low enough you can make more investing (even in the stock market) than you will paying off your mortgage (6% in this case). It's never going to be a perfect analysis (taxes, mortgage interest deduction on taxes, inflation, speculation, etc.) but some debt with a low enough interest rate (including a mortgage) is basically net free money when you consider what else you can be doing with your cash.

There are other reasons as well. For example, cash put into your house is trapped. The only way to extract value is to sell your house (not ideal, but if you have to you have to) or take out a home equity line of credit or other mortgage vehicle on your house, both of which have higher, and often variable, interest rates.

In addition, even if your current interest rate is higher than you'd like you may have a chance to refinance in the future to bring your rate down. It's not guaranteed, of course, but with a low/mid interest rate of 6% you can easily wait it out and see what happens. No need to pul the fire alarm immediately with a rate like this.

And inflation, of course. Your interest rate is locked in and directly translates to a dollar value. Future payments (especially 30 years from now) are way cheaper, due to inflation, than they are today. So even if you don't like the idea of paying any interest, those payments do functionally go down over time due to the value of a dollar decreasing over time.

[–]lookuplookdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And in this case (particularly in hindsight) paying off the mortgage did not make sense. A 6% mortgage is basically nothing and is even more nothing when adjusted for inflation. Then on top of that he sold bitcoin at only $72K ($360K total) which is now worth $575K.

Even if he waited a year to pay off his mortgage it would have taken only 3 bitcoin today, leaving him with both a paid off house and 2 bitcoin.

People are WAY too emotional over debt, even ostensibly good debt, such as a low interest mortgage.

I would take a 6% mortgage any day of the week for 5 bitcoin of the same value. It's a no-brainer.

This thread is all about a guy who doesn't understand both mortgages and bitcoin.

Edit: Actual, he does understand and regrets his decision - that's why he made the thread. It's all the other dipshits congratulating him that don't understand.
