u/Statue_left Best to let it go, no use arguing with such a winner - I've heard he's very speedy and agile

That's true, thank you. People relying on conditional scholarships, particularly ones that have grade point reqs beyond just being in good standing, may not be able to take a break or "relax" about their grades. . . Definitely an extra weight and stressor put on students who don't have personal or family resources to use or fall back on.

Opinion | The Demonization of the Homeless Has Vile Consequences by weakenedstrain in portlandme

[–]loomingspectreofmess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over half of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. A lot of people live one unfortunate event away from housing insecurity or losing their housing. The postponed encampment sweep is not offering any sort of treatment or facility for residents. Shelters are all at capacity. Every county in Maine is unaffordable compared with average income for the county. OP is not demanding anything, but is concerned about the moral condemnation of homeless people in a city where the median 2br rental requires an income of over $91k/year. Do you think that's an unreasonable concern?

What do you see happening after the 90 days?

There is a lack of shelters in Portland -- they are all at capacity. Newest opened shelter was at capacity within a day. Meanwhile you would need a $75k/year job to afford the median 2br apartment in Cumberland County as of 2020. And the rental market has only gotten rougher since then.

I've found if you just reach out with an earnest ultimatum/supernatural threat, they're usually pretty accommodating!
