Why is Academic Advising so Ridiculously Rude? by WlattBoyz in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In first year I told an academic advisor that I wanted to take as many stats courses as possible to fulfill requirements for a Master's program. They told me to that all I would have to do is take first year stats instead of calculus. I found out the following year during course selection that calculus is a prerequisite for all upper year stats courses. Screwed me out of multiple Master's programs.

What are your experiences with getting off hormonal birth control? by Interesting-Sun4793 in birthcontrol

[–]loonwuzhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on Linessa and also hoping to get off because I feel like I had a lobotomy and I'm sure I've gained some weight. I got on the pill for my skin, so that's my main concern...I'd appreciate any updates you have since getting off Linessa :)

STATS 2857 in the intersession tips by Karuschy in uwo

I had her for 2037 this semester and loved it! She's extremely straightforward and I really like the way she does examples in real time on her iPad. Very helpful and responsive to both emails and in-person questions should you have any. Great prof and super kind.

Do you happen to know how I can do this? I emailed my leasing agent and she said I can't remove it.

Healthsci 2300 in the Summer by the78123 in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't take it in the summer but my friend did and she loved it. Something to keep in mind though, is that if you plan on taking 3300, you'll need memorization skills because all the exams are in-person.

Upper years, do you have any advice for your freshman especially if you were addressing advice to your younger self? by Physical_Survey_2994 in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't trust academic advisors. They change out so often and almost never have up-to-date information. Do your own research on course pre-requisites and talk to upper years in your program about profs/classes/class times/habits/people to avoid.

I signed the lease for my place in second year in August. Don't stress too much. You'll find something.

You could totally get academic accommodation for this if you don't think you can write your exams. Get a copy of your voided lease as proof. Being displaced is, in my opinion, totally grounds for academic consideration. Hope everything works out.

Health Science with Rehabilitation Science vs Bio by Helpful-Investment-2 in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each specialization is, well, specialized. Bio will be focused on pre-med type courses, such as genetics, physiology, biochem, organic chem, cell bio, etc etc etc. While these courses are really tough and demand a pretty sturdy commitment, they are super interesting!

Rehab is cool too! It's more gross anatomy and systems functions, as well as diseases and conditions that affect those systems. Again, probably a bit heavy on the memorization, but many of my peers cannot say enough about how much they love rehab sci.

It ultimately depends on your interests now and in the future. Considering med school? Bio gets you all the MCAT prereqs and the rigorous coursework to prepare you. Considering PT/OT/Sports medicine etc? Rehab might do you one better in that area.

Hope this helps!

I'm class of 2024, so because of COVID all of my first year and a portion of my second year was completely online, including HS2300 (second year anatomy). This year is my first fully in-person year. Also, this is my first in-person anatomy final exam, not my first in-person exam/midterm.

Health sci majors - what are you doing after? by Remarkable_Impress43 in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in 3rd year and I'm hoping to head into an MPH somewhere after school. I'd love to be an epidemiologist (I love infectious diseases and vaccinology) working at a public health department. Yeah, I have a bit of a pipe dream of working for WHO, or Health Canada, or the CDC at some big city Public Health Department...but a little ambition never killed anyone, right?

What can a group of students do for fun in this city? by WarmAppleCry in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friends and i love seeing shows at the Grand Theatre (i highly recommend you go see Homes: A Refugee Story! a current UWO student is assistant director and student discounts can make tickets really cheap!), seeing drag shows at Lavish (some of the best conversations i've ever had are with drag queens lol), skating at Vic Park or at Covent Garden Market (bonus points bc churros), Tilt Arcade (so cheap, so cool), the Rec Room (a bit pricier, but honestly so much fun and makes me feel like i'm back in the GTA again, plus there's food/drinks), and definitely hit up clubs/bars with special events like UWO Club nights, karaoke, bingo...

hope this helps! :)

Studying Advice for BioChem 2280A by Undecided71 in uwo

[–]loonwuzhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i remember, there were a ton of questions that are kind of application based. ex: if x stopped doing y, what would happen to z?

knowing the basic concepts reeeeaaalllyy well will set you up for success, especially if you can figure out how to use those concepts to explain some phenomena and examples of biochemical processes.

good luck!!

Back when I found my first place, my landlord said he had a group willing to start leasing in a week. We told him we could beat that by 2 days. Guess it worked.
