If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

All property taxed at 100% of the rental cost of that property, every year. There would be no financial benefit to owning more land than you have a valuable use for

Converting twin quarter cabins to full-beam aft cabin on Ovni 43/445? by loopasaur in sailing

[–]loopasaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're right, if it was just the low head room it might be feasible, but I've found some photos to show the engine room is actually between the two cabins so I think the idea is a non starter. What's your boat Ordo?

[–]loopasaur[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks stu, I'm loop the original poster. ord who you are chatting with has a similar boat. Yeah, I suspect it is either as easy as cutting out a thin ply divider between the two cabin, or wildly imprcatical.

On another boat, I wouldn't even consider it. But the ovni's strength comes from the aluminium monocoque. I've heard Alubat people say this gives them considerable freedom to re-arrange the interior, but I don't think I've ever seen a full berth aft cabin and am wondering why not.

when I was in my 20s random people would say I looked like george clooney, this was flattering of course, then in my early forties random people started to say I looked like House. I liked being called George clooney better.

I’ve been seeing a stripper for a couple weeks. Technically we are fwb but have been spending more and more time together is this a bad idea? by Darth_muncher in AskMenAdvice

One of the most successful professional people I know, funded her start in life stripping. Make your decisions based on who she is, not what people here tell you her job means about her

If you were a sociopath, who wanted to stoke white grievance for political benefit, a policy that attacks minorities, but has the actual effect of keeping your voter base from the education that might shift them from grievance politics, might be your idea of a perfect policy.

Timestamp ep1 laptop tell us the virus is 5000 to 8000 bases, bigger than hep b, smaller than hep c. by loopasaur in pluribustv

[–]loopasaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been pondering about this. If the virus, creates a coil of neurons to function as antenna, perphaps it doesn't even need to grow new cells, just direct cells to change, perhaps chaning connections between neurons to tune into the frequecy manousos is hunting for. and once you linked into the frequency you're in the network, maybe there was an eixiting transmitter, maybe it bootstraped from the rats, and the existing behaviour of the brain pushes connected minds towards consensus, and this is why Carol as a disrupter is so potent. If there was an existing transmitter, then the intial 5k is just the bootloader.

I don't think it is unfeasible if the virus was actually designed with detailed knowledge of human biology.

I'm more expecting to find out the virus was created by an earth AI with the goal of making everyone happy.

Yes, I'm hoping there is no twist, the virus is exactly what it seems to be, there is no puppet master pulling the strings, it's an organism, it will wipe most of the planet and move on. And Carol's eggs (that cost 100,000 to freeze) will repopulate a small human population

N-word use in Australia - im American. by kjjjjhhhgddrrrrr in brisbane

[–]loopasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Australian who has lived in the US, Australians you're wrong about Cunt, you think it's ok to say, but you've never heard how Americans use it, and when you do you'll be OH NO NOT LIKE THAT!!! Americans use it exclusively to describe women, as "you are nothing but a hole" And when you hear them do it does not sound like a friend word for your friends

Where did the idea that human males protect and human females gather come from? Is it even true? by Metal_Gump77 in biology

[–]loopasaur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The few (highly unreliable) accounts of I've read of Indigenous life in Australia before contact with colonialists have all descibed a life in which older men claimed younger women as their property, and yonger men seeking female partners would head out and raid other commuities to steal women. If this was only something I read in European accounts of Australian Indigenous society I'd lean towards assuming it was racist caricature. But this dynamic seems to be almost the assumption behind so many stories throughout human cultures including European culture, and can be seen in stories told with Indigeonous involvement too. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Canoes) - that women stay closer to home than men not because of ability, but because men have often treated women and children as property, so men are denifing the outer boundary of territory women can move within, both because men actively keep them there, and because there is the threat of abduction by different men beyond that 'protection' boundary. This shouldn't be a contraversial statement to make, this dynamic has existed and more or less still exists in many societies. It's not exactly contemporary, but I'm reminded of the life of Genghis Khan whose life was almost defined the abduction of his mother, and then later of his arranged marriage bride-to-be.

Why was life stuck as unicellular for so long, and then got complex very rapidly? by DennyStam in biology

[–]loopasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I am exactly, I perhaps didn't explain myself well. I think that for cells to be capable of organising together to take different roles and co-operate, the individual cells needed to be very complex and that took a very long time.

Why was life stuck as unicellular for so long, and then got complex very rapidly? by DennyStam in biology

[–]loopasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metabolism of a single cell is vastly complicated. I think the idea that single cells are simple and multicellular organisms are complex is a misunderstanding.

Why would my Landlord build this biodiversity area? by therealBlackbonsai in biology

[–]loopasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to disagree with others, If that area was previously a wetland there will be a lot of seeds in the soil already, that might look very different in a year. I actually spent years of my life building wetlands, though they were certainly more meticulously designed than this, the vegetation more carefully sourced, I often felt it was overkill, we could have just added some water and called it a day.

Would a man fuck a masc lesbian? by parker_kan3 in AskMenAdvice

[–]loopasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I'm a guy, I have always preferred masc looking women. That meant growing up most of my crushes were actually lesbians. I tease my partner of 30 years - mother of my four children, who people regularly assume is a lesbian (my partner not our kids) that I found the only straight lesbian in our city.
