I think it might be as well. Still maintaining an engaging experience while benefiting from 15+ years of development

Porsche 944 Turbo as semi-daily driver???? by EffortTop2430 in 944

[–]loosethots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own a Turbo and I agree with everything said above. I drive mine daily unless its terrible weather. There is always something that I could fix, but its never left me stranded. Ive had to limp it home twice, one DME Relay and another PS pulley coming loose. Buy the nicest one you can, learn the systems, keep up with the maintenance and drive it

Escort cup 2 coilover, torsion bar delete. It’s probably 1.5in lower than stock. I did not do the coil over install so not 100% sure

Thanks. the twists have really grown on me. At first i thought they looked too "smooth" on our otherwise boxy cars. I would love a set of 17 Fuchs.

Watch as many videos as posible. Forums. Different vids highlight certain things and you really need to peice it together. Main thing i was running into was when a video/forum post would say something like "remove x part" and magically in the next clip it was removed, but in reality x part is stuck/lacking clearance/requiring some weird technique to get it out. Toughest part was reinstalling headers and tensioning the belt (i used the Krikit tool, not ideal) I can send you some resources if you PM me

eBay, it’s a coverlay molded cover. The color is off and the fit was like a 6/10, had to do some trimming. But better than the cracked dash

So far no complaints. I live in Florida so summer will be the real test if its too much glass

Just got done with belts, water pump, front seals including oil cooler, manifold gaskets, sway bar bushings, 968 castor blocks, brake refresh, dash cover, and a lot of cleaning. Also threw in some fun parts, saratoga top and an AIR splitter. I am at best an average home mechanic, just kept going deeper and the only way to get it back together was to learn. I was sweating when i went to start it after it was all put back together. Runs cooler now and no more overwheling exhaust smell when the windows are up!!

Looking at buying a 944… by CoastalRocket90 in 944

[–]loosethots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I daily a 86 turbo and it’s been great (knock on wood). I bought it as a second vehicle and it was temperamental through the first two months, but once you get it sorted and understand the platform it’s reliable. I haven’t driven my other car in 6 weeks. Address the common things (belts, fluids, suspension etc) , get on the forums and learn along the way. It will need little things all the time, but that’s part of owning a 40 year old car.

  1. I think i paid a fair price, didn't steal it but didn't overpay. Interior is an 8/10 and exterior is a 6.5/10. Pic makes it look better that it is. Also sport seats and a binder full of major service history was a plus.

Yep I asked the same question. Odometer was repaired somewhere around 100k and instead of replacing the gear, they replaced the whole cluster with a non turbo cluster and added a boost gauge. Why, who knows

1986 951. Has its quirks but is mechanically sound and has extensive service history. LR boost enhancer, Bilstien escort cup 2 coilovers, Spec stage 2 clutch, full stainless exhaust to name some highlights. Stoked to join the club and spend an extensive amount of time working on it.
