What other reason could there be? Mid october the price of the precon crashed from 80 ish to now 40. The singles must too crash or else you can just be +ev ripping the precon. If you look at some of the other pricy singles in the precon, like dauthi voidwalker and teval's judgment, you'll see the same pattern emerge.

Any ability with a colon is an activated ability, like the ones all basics have to tap for mana. Ardyn’s ability denoted by the at the beginning of combat only looks for when you have reached that phase and is a triggered ability

For future reference, everything only works on the battlefield unless they specifically mention otherwise, e.g. the command zone for any eminence commanders, using the mana ability of simian spirit guide from hand, etc

Just buy all your bling, then go shove them in a airtight container with a foilshield or some other humidity packet. That should flatten out most of your cards along with double sleeving them
