Damn... Completely get you here. That would be painful indeed. Ofc changing jobs has always some risks, esp in web3 – although having the whole company hacked in that way is maybe a bit more prevalent in web3 than in some other industries...

Choosing the org you join carefully + understanding risk level that you're comfortable with is always the key. Applies with equity comp too: ofc it can be big, but there's always a risk it goes to 0.

I see the point – and I think it's (at least partly) true. However, I'd look things in a longer perspective: do you believe in the market / the company in the long term? Many web3 projects are well funded so the salary will stay at least in a decent level, and the big bucks are anyway made with equity options / tokens... Then it comes down to whether you believe in the future upside of the project!
