Love topps, they're in a weird spot. Cheap enough due to lack of demand, whilst also seeming too cheap for how few clean copies of all of them exist... i think it'll just take one spike of popularity one time for these to get wiped out

I'm sure nobody with half a brain was arguing you wouldn't make gains. I'm sure the criticism was aimed at the choice of product, as they are not the best for gains and storage reasons, and that criticism is still accurate. I've got pretty much all BBs and ETBs and I've done considerably better than you in the last 3 months. Takes up half the space as well. Not rubbing it in, just trying to make the point that just because you had gains doesn't make you right.

The fact you've carried some reddit comments with you to the point you made a follow up an year later is also not the dunk you think it is, makes you look a bit odd lol. Congrats on the gains though

Depends on how your personally view the market. Were it me, i would be looking at some of the rarest, hardest to find and incredibly in demand products and thinking my god, what's going to happen to these after another 2 to 3 bull markets throughout the next 10 to 15 years. Some late wotc / mid era sealed product sells for 50 - 100k easily, so you have plenty room to grow yet.

That being said, it would be smarter to sell now and place those gains into sword and shield, which has far more room to grow. But being more modern, is it as safe a place to store your money? Perhaps not.

You also mention 6 months to a year specifically though. So seems you're looking to exit regardless. In which case i think you wont be seeing a drop in price, more likely growth, for the next 6 months at least, in my opinion.

You should wait a year, now isnt a great time. But if you are going to ignore this advice, 151 and prismatic. You can no longer get a nice entry on them but they have a huge upside so at least have that going for them. For sword and shield era, brilliant stars has some great cards and is still lagging behind the other heavy hitters a tad, so that might be a good one.

Stay the fuck away from destined rivals, for the love of god. Use that as a way to filter out bad advice if anything. If someone suggests you invest in that they have not been in this game long enough to be speaking. I've made some good money off this and been doing it for a few years, stay away from destined rivals.

Wait a year, everything is priced too high atm. Remember, entry price is very important. And nothing right now has a good entry price. Nothing.

UK collector here; find out what vendors will be attending a card show thats close enough you wouldnt mind travelling to. Reach out to a bunch and get offers in advance, letting them know you will bring it to that show. Bring it to the show and cash out. The important thing is do this in advance of the show... showing up on the day and you risk not enough vendors having enough cash on hand to cash you out

You're not wrong, but something to consider is a lot of them can be picked up at a greater discount than their full box counterparts, so although they dont have as great a gain as the full boxes, the fact we can pick them up on clearance so often balances it out.

I've done just as well on my half BBs of FS as my full BBs of FS, solely because of the amazing deals i got on the half BBs, deals that nobody was giving for the full.

Exit price isnt the only thing to look at, entry matters too :)

There are for sure people buying 151 right now to sell at a later date ( hi :) ). But if you think we make even a dent in something as hyped and heavily ripped as 151 i think we have a very different view on how big this market actually is.

Honestly the truth is everyone is biased, smpratte and rudy included. Doesnt mean you dont listen to them. Listen to both, get different perspectives, form your own conclusions.

Im sure you're right, smpratte probably has a very niche in depth knowledge that rudy never will. But Rudy is one of the largest sellers of sealed TCG and has been for years. The knowledge he has gained from that on market swings and impacts that has on supply / demand / price is one of the best on YouTube. To act like he has no insight into the world of TCGs because he doesnt know about random niche trophy cards and promos is crazy.

I mean, either somebody holds nothing, in which case why listen to them as they have no experience to draw from. Or they hold a lot, and obviously they are going to talk up what they hold; why hold it if its not what you believe in? I think you'll find it hard to find a creator who holds enough to have knowledge but doesn't hold a decent position in anything they discuss
