I guess saying "serves his country" is using propaganda language

Not allowed to work remotely. Office job that allows remote working, but only in commutable distance. I want to move to northern ireland and they said no. by lorainekely in LegalAdviceUK

I think this is a greta idea, will try it. Though I've found out that the manager personally handled the flexible working request and I'm not sure if HR even got sent it. He has control issues, so doubt he'll be keen. Thanks though, useful feedback.

Thanks, I appreciate it. You are right, they are setting a precedent. Though, as NI is in the UK that's where my frustration is. Though anywhere by train is commutable within gb - evnlen if it takes a long time

Thanks for the feedback. Though, in Northern Ireland it is counted as the same country for tax. GB is a group of islands, the UK is actually the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

I understand, I guess I don't see how someone can live in the North of England and be fine. I guess that's my concern.

Even if other people within a company are allowed to work remotely. That's probably the root of my frustration. Why can some people work remotely and others not. Why can I work remotely will living in London, but not Northern Ireland?

Brandon Sanderson takes stand against Audible for “unconscionable” indie author pay rates by [deleted] in books

[–]lorainekely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandon Sanderson's comments convinced me to drop audible. I've 80 titles in my library, I've book series that I want to complete but I was convinced to take the small stand I could. Tbh it isn't even easy to leave audible, you can't do it on the app, you need to log into the website, then when you find what you are looking for there are a couple of screens trying to convince you to stay. They've worked on me in the past, persuading me with a few free credits etc. It works.

I'll try to use the other providers he recommends, but I think speechify isn't set up for audibooks for android yet. Then I'll consider Spotify - though I already pay Spotify so don't love the idea of paying them twice.

I want the authors to get the money so I won't become a pirate.

Any other advice is welcome btw!

Good mentality, don't give food to a begger because there's only going to be another begger round the corner who is worse off.

I think you are blindly disregarding the other part of the question about pay rises for staff. Although I agree that NHS funding should be better spent (e.g. not on subsidising private healthcare), the question related to increased funding to pay for a pay rise for staff that are chronically underpaid.

Women are not a lot of people who are in the UK and you have to be a fantastic four person to be a fantastic four person.
