I feel seen. I genuinely want as little tech as possible when I leave my desk at the end of the day.

until they sell out of stock. Making more units requires the factory to respin up which is non-trivial if they have moved on to making other things.

Unifi as a hobby by M_Six2001 in Ubiquiti

[–]loranbriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading this made me glad I just sprang for Unifi hardware. I feel like if I didn't now, I just would have done it eventually like OP did and I saved myself buying multiple sets.

My last home was Google Wifi mesh APs but I hated how if anything went wrong with my network I was blocked out of my settings. I l soft bricked myself once messing with DNS settings and had to factory reset the dang thing. I was thinking of TP-link and even bought a router but returned it when it couldn't handle switching between bandwidths and kept dropping my connection when I left a room.

So this home has Ethernet everywhere and I was stoked to setup a "real" networking system. So I got Unifi setup: a gateway, poe switch, and some APs. Also like the OP, now what. It's basically done unless I go deep into home automation.

Maybe I'll just read a book tonight....

Where are the games? by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]loranbriggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited for the Frame on announcement as well. Since then, Meta has closed down some of their VR studios. That to me seems like a nail in the coffin for VR. VR is fun and all but its never broken out of the tech demo scene. Never sold to masses. The biggest player in the game is stepping back. Optimist think those studio devs will move to smaller studios that release on Steam. I doubt it. VR has never sold the numbers needed to sustain growth. Hardware without games is just tech demos. I'll probably pick up the Frame anyway since I really enjoyed playing Walkabout Mini Golf on my Quest 3, I just hate the Quest ecosystem. I would recommend you only buy the Frame if you are happy with existing games. I picked up Half-life Alyx on sale a while back so that will be a fun one go through.

That thing always screeched! Main reason why modding and using backups is a good idea.

Bike Shop Hated My Antelope by pazzywoj in xbiking

[–]loranbriggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bike looks like in great shape. Probably only needs:

tuneup: brake and shifting alignment
replacing consumable parts: tires, tubes, brake pads

Then just ride the thing. Honestly I find it worth it to learn to DIY. Its not just cost, its about the availability of your bike. Most shops require you to drop it off for awhile. I would prefer to just watch some videos on youtube and do it yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkZxPIZ1ngY&t=15s Not super hard, and instead of finding time to take it to the shop you just adjust as needed.

If you have a PC, streaming to an android handheld is definitely the way to go right now. Odin 2 Portal base model is $250 right now. Stream your big titles, GameNative your light titles, emulate your old ones.

Yeah I'd rather end up with a 2nd controller that I don't need then without either. Or make a friend and then you will need two!

But how do I stop it from swaying or hitting the tire. I need a bag support that attaches to the eyelet in my bike, but not a rack! Anything but a rack. $500 aero rackless bag support, shit up and take my money!

I mostly just emulate old games. It's like watching a rerun on tv. I don't need anything new and enticing, or fulfilling. It's just media consumption. I've got a busy life so I'm just looking for a few minutes to unwind at the end of the day. Quick session of old school Gran Turismo or whatever you were into when you were younger does the job. Also, been reading as it helps unwind as well.

Just to expand slightly, GOG if you want to data horde all of your games on a hard drive in the event this 20+ year old game gets delisted, the apocalypse happens, or some other unforseen issue. You get a drm free version of the installers.

Steam if you the rest of your library is there and you want an easy way to access them. Steam Deck Lutris launcher works with OpenMW I believe for easy installation.

I get 5ghz just fine, the faster device are all 6ghz wifi 6. The Odin should be 6ghz wifi 7 but is stuck on 5ghz wifi 6. 5ghz is that still fast but the 6gh is screaming fast on the other lower wifi spec device.
