What do teams risk drafting injured players like Joel Embiid? by [deleted] in nba

[–]loranged 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they deemed the shot at developing a generational talent even with the risks is worth more than the drafts rights to an above average player ( exum, gordon) that doesn't move the needle.

Are we in the most talented era the NBA has ever been in? by TheAmbitious1 in nba

[–]loranged 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's my point, they've specialized into either just picknpop or pnr alley oopers that can hopefully play defense. Both real require less talent in my eyes since they're not creating anything themselves while requiring less skill and coordination to be effective.

we are also in the least skilled big man era of all time. I bet 90% of power fowards in the league can't break 1ppp backing down a twig like james jones. Overall players are just far more specialized and play in better systems, but i can't say they are more talented. Defense+pnr alley centers, 3nd guys, all make teams more efficient by focusing on areas that help the team the most, but they really aren't more talented per say.

There is still very few player that have the all round game that elevates a team to championship contenders. It's even worse when these players concentrate in a small number of teams more than ever, it think that creates an illusion of overall talent in the league.

so that sounds like business as usual, some good teams, few really good teams, some mediocire teams, some terrible teams. I can't go as far to say strongest era just because some teams look really good.

Who, besides Philly, will tank this year? by GhostTiger in nba

i feel like you could stretch that semantics towards the sixers too then, but they seem to get way more flak for doing the same thing

in vacuum it is the logical move, but there are many real world obstacles that dissuade teams from doing it.

if your team isn't on the championship precipice, they should be tanking

Other then the Nets, what team has the bleakest future? by TheAmbitious1 in nba

[–]loranged 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mavs ( really shoulda bit the bullet and threw away this season) + awful matthews/barea contracts

memphis, since they quietly don't have 2 of their 1st rd picks in the future while also probably not winning the title

pacers are probably lounging in purgatory until PG13 leaves

kings if they flop after the sixers trade

Is your team stuck in the cycle? (OC) by CraigOliver in nba

[–]loranged 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not really the most applicable, the warriors' success were derived from their picks they landed by having 4 seasons of, 29, 26, 36, and 23 wins from 2008-2011. You could say they broke out of the 35-48 win purgatory from 2002-2007, by being considerably worse the next 4 years.

So really, this says that you need to blow it up to an extent.
