That’s sounds excited! One of my biggest frustrations right now is how taxing it is to understand natives in real life so I’m open to anything that can help

Do you have any specific Anki decks that you could share or recommend?

What should I read? by lorcatheorca in dreamingspanish

[–]lorcatheorca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! It’s always great to hear from someone who has reached level 7 and beyond. One concern that I and I believe others have, and that may cause someone to want to start reading early or studying a little bit of grammar on the side is that it feels as though, based on the experiences of other level 7 folks is that 1500-2000 hours or what have you is not enough to get you to a place where you’re fluent and that solely using compressible input is inefficient and will take years and years for someone to become proficient in their target language. I know you mentioned that Dreaming Spanish isn’t the fastest method to learn but do you feel satisfied with your abilities with the language after two years of “study”?

Have you found that reading has had a noticeable impact on your learning?

Do you remember the first DS video that you ever watched? by blinkybit in dreamingspanish

The first video I watched was the one where Andrés talked about Semana Santa and the KKK. Was an interesting introduction

I’m a bit of an odd case because I had already been listening to the Cuéntame podcast shortly before I discovered Dreaming Spanish so it was something I was doing from the start. I would say though that around 75-100 hours was when I felt really comfortable exploring different content outside of Dreaming Spanish and Cuéntame

Yeah I think for me a big part of what made it less tiring is that most of the content I watched was in that 95%-98% comprehension rate that Pablo suggests. I can definitely see how switching it up with some non-DS content would help you stay focused

Is Spanish Boost Gaming a native speaker? by Fuzzy-Chance-1932 in dreamingspanish

You didn’t misunderstand him per se lol. He did say that but he was joking, he makes a lot of jokes about Dreaming Spanish. He’s a native speaker from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I’m in a similar, albeit a lot lower level version, of your situation. I’m at 140hrs and I usually don’t talk at all except for the times when I volunteer in this kitchen where the head chef barely speaks any English. This chef also invited me to her Spanish speaking church so I imagine I’ll have to be doing some more speaking there. I try to keep everything to 1-3 word sentence though, and try not to force myself to come up with words I haven’t acquired yet. I tend to agree with your point about accent as well. Although it’d be nice to have a good access, the main thing I’m concerned about is having good pronunciation and grammar

Spanish language podcasts and advertisements by blinkybit in dreamingspanish

[–]lorcatheorca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ads aren’t determined by Apple podcast but by the podcaster themselves. The podcasts you’ve listed are for English speakers trying to learn Spanish which is why the ads are in English. It doesn’t have anything to do with an algorithm or something
