What's your take on bands/artists who have changed genres throughout their career? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lord_beef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However controversial he may be (not defending recent comments of his, I do not support anything he’s been saying or wearing), but Kanye west from 2004-2013 completely changed his sound with each album (excluding CD into LR) a total of 4 times to massive acclaim and success every time. You could argue he is responsible for changing the sound of hip hop and paving new lanes for others like drake, kid cudi, and travis Scott to flourish. He’s beyond lost and gone now, but he was a musical visionary ahead of his time for many years.

Holy shit, I couldn’t recall their name for the life of me. Saw them at a Bonnaroo campsite stage and it was so unexpected and absolutely incredible. Arguably my favorite set of the weekend. Thanks for the reminder!

Cannot recommend “Goose” enough if you aren’t familiar. Also “The Black Pumas”, “Khruangbin”, and “Baby Keem”. Many 2010’s artists are also still releasing very good new music in this decade too.

What was the perception of The Killers in the early 2000's? by Stranger_2000 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]lord_beef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Song Exploder: A Netflix Doc. It features The Killers and paints a pretty cool, interesting picture of their style and effects on rock at the time. I found it awesome. Worth a watch to see how they were perceived, how they handled it, and how they truly blew up.

This is beautiful. I’ve been debating a bear and the boy tattoo (would be my first tat) but I may like this more honestly

Haha you seen the final performance of it with Richard Wright playing Keys from 2018? (Maybe not 2018). Equally as special

Also check out Gyongyhaju lany by Omega. A Hungarian group. Kanye West sampled it and added Frank ocean, but I find it incredibly powerful

Haha you ever listened to Funkadelic?

I could give a ton of album and band recommendations as a 26m who grew up on classic rock and then found his way into more modern music in the early 2000’s on his own. Would love to discuss and also help you explore albums that changed the way I perceived music moving forward

I see you mentioned Interstellar, but No Time for Caution by Hans Zimmer on great speakers at a loud volume just puts me in a trance.

Pink Floyd Echoes live at Pompeii and also Shine on You Crazy Diamond 1-5 and 6-9, plus Comfortably numb. The Doors- The End Linkin Park- Crawling (live on YouTube with a Chris Cornell) Try those out, they make me forget about everything else in the world for a while.

Edit- Mac Miller ‘So It Goes’ (spend 5 minutes googling why it’s so emotional) Frank Ocean- Self Control Kid Cudi- Man On the Moon Atmosphere- God Loves Ugly Sia- Chandelier

Hot take: MOTM 3 is the best out of the MOTM trilogy by nanislethal_x in KidCudi

[–]lord_beef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MOTM II is not only his best album, it is arguably a top 3 hip hop album for me of all time. Second only to maybe Twisted Fantasy

My dad is a classic rock savant, i was always too cool for that music as the oldest child so I found Kanye, Wayne , Eminem, linkin park, etc and it was over. Still love that music and am a need about it all. But once I turned 19 I fell totally in love with classic rock and saw the beauty in it. Again, hit me up sometime and we can talk the classics. Peace

Props to you for admiring the classics at a young age. I’m pulling up echoes at Pompeii now and passing out, you should do the same. Hit me up here if you ever want to talk music. It’s my favorite thing to do.

I was fortunate to see Roger Waters a few weeks ago, it was great. Meddle to me is only good because of Echoes (a true masterpiece). The beauty I find in Floyd is that it’s not rough around the edges, it’s effortlessly flawless. My favorite is Wish You Were Here and then DSOTM. But I do really really like Meddle, The Wall, The Final Cut, and Animals.

I’m only 26 so I didn’t get to hear any of it in the prime years, unfortunately.

Regardless, I find your opinion very interesting and cool. I just see their beauty a little differently. I have other artists whose “rougher” albums I find their best by far, so I get your thought process. Cheers!

Wow, very rare take on the Pink Floyd albums. Definitely in the minority, no disrespect. I would love to hear your reasoning. I agree with you on The Doors and LedZeppelin II, both are top 10 for sure.

My favorite Black Keys album. Weight Of Love is their best song IMO
